Job Description
Duties:Coordinate the daily work flow of the front-end operational activities in the hairdressing salon.Assist in the supervision of students in the learning environment.Provide phone and in-person reception to the public.Demonstrate a professional demeanour to students assigned to desk.Support faculty with regards to classroom materials. Implement department guidelines by communicating with instructors to ensure client bookings meet the needs of the services required by each student.Implement promotional and marketing strategies / professionally demonstrate and encourage retail sales.Work with distributors to accurately manage a high-volume inventory.Provide accurate recording of client information / records on the salon software.Order time sensitive supplies for the salon retail and salon dispensary.Manage all client payments, record keeping, and remittances of all salon revenue.Required Qualifications:Hairdressing certification. One-year Office Administration certificate, or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited post secondary institution, and minimum three years recent, related industry experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.Proven superior organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills (written and verbal), ability to work as part of a team, ability to manage multiple and complex tasks, ability to determine and manage priorities and to use discretion and to work under pressure in a high demands setting.Understanding and sensitivity to a variety of learning styles.Ability to demonstrate processes and supervise students.Excellent time management skills with proven prioritization skills.Experience with Point of Sales system.Some bookkeeping experience.Valid OFA Level 1 Certificate required (or obtain as per CUPE Article 23.03 c).Preferred Qualifications:Related VIU experience.Experience with Insight Salon and Spa Software.VIU is pleased to offer eligible employees a comprehensive benefit plan; ample paid holiday time; professional development opportunities and a desirable pension plan.
