Our vision is to be a recognized leader in service and public protection that delivers trusted, accessible, modern programs, and contributes to Nova Scotia as a safe and desirable place to live, work and do business.The Operational Accounting Division of the Department of Service NS has an opportunity where you can apply your financial expertise and client service in an environment that offers challenges and values collaborative teamwork and innovative thinking.About Our OpportunityThe Financial Service Delivery Branch/Operational Accounting, Department of Internal Services has an opening that will provide the opportunity to apply your excellent financial expertise and client service in a setting that offers challenges and values collaborative teamwork and innovative thinking.Primary AccountabilitiesUnder the general direction of the Coordinator Operational Accounting, the Revenue Officer is responsible for receiving, registering, and depositing revenues/expenditure refunds (electronic, credit card payments, cheques). Verifying that funds are negotiable (i.e. body and figures of cheques are signed and dated, payee is correct, etc.). Prepare daily bank deposits, issuing receipts as required and preparing related financial documents and records to ensure the accurate receipt, completeness and recording of revenues in compliance with Branch and corporate accounting policies. The Revenue Officer will also reconcile accounts, prepare internal billings, apply control requirements, customer service standards and best business practices to resolve problems and provide subject matter expertise and guidance to departments and agencies of the province.Qualifications and ExperienceTo be considered for this role you will have 5 years related experience in a financial administration environment; or an acceptable equivalent of education, training, and related experience. A post-secondary degree with a focus in accounting/finance or actively working towards a professional accounting designation will be considered assets.Proficiency in SAP Accounts Receivable or comparable large Enterprise Resource Planning Application (ERP). The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to analyze and reconcile accounts and determine causes of variances. They will also have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Good judgement to identify sensitive and/or urgent issues that require special handling, an ability to research, compile and evaluate information in a timely manner. An ability to work in a consultative manner with internal and external clients is also required.A working knowledge and/or training in SAP Accounts Payable, General Ledger Business Warehouse would be a definite asset. A working knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply government policies and procedures would also be an asset.Proficiency in the use of PC computer systems, database systems, internet-based applications, spreadsheets, and word-processing packages is essential. The successful candidate must also be capable of assessing constantly changing and competing priorities while meeting deadlines and other pressures in a high volume, team-oriented environment with a customer service focus.
