Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.Under the supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Youth Centre Worker will support operations of The Multi-Service Youth Centre in Spryfield. The Spryfield MSYC offers a range of services and programs for youth to access including but not limited to; counselling, job support, and mental health support. It is the responsibility of the Youth Centre Worker to create and maintain a supportive environment. The role requires an adaptable and flexible personality, comfortable completing a range of activities including leading activities, connecting youth to support services, and managing the dynamics and behaviors in the space.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in the coordination, and facilitation of drop-in activitiesProvide resource and referral support to youth (both in-house support and external support)Create and maintain a safe and inclusive spaceProvide orientation to all new youth attending drop-in programsActive on-going engagement during drop-in times to manage dynamics and behaviors.Attend monthly Program Staff MeetingsMaintain administrative work by recording information from shift (I.e. reporting incidents, making note of supplies needed, taking count of number of youths in attendance, etc.)QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:Grade 12 or equivalentCurrent certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPRExperience working with at risk youth an assetExperience working within a harm reduction frameworkMust attend all mandatory orientation/training sessions (e.g. Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR, WHMIS, etc.)Applicants must be willing to obtain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention TrainingTechnical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of youth engagement strategiesExperience in leadership and group facilitation considered an assetMental Health First Aid considered an assetKnowledge of current services available for youth in HRMAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.Security Clearance Requirements: Selected applicants must complete an employment screening check, including a Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.Please note - Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.
