We collaborate with game teams and industry partners and also publish our research within our industry and to the public. We pursue long-term applied research yet stay relevant to the present by delivering artifacts along the way to game teams and technology groups inside EA. Some of our research includes bringing digital characters to life, using machine learning for game AI and content creation, and developing novel real-time graphics & physics techniques.We are looking for a Software Engineer - with software development and data analytics experience to contribute their unique expertise to SEED's projects and collaborate with other researchers and game developers to deliver world-class experiences for our players.You excel at implementing novel solutions to solve big problems and know how to strike a balance between quality and performance. You are well versed in data analytics and related domains, and you understand how data analytics can empower decision-making and you believe the intersection of data and software engineering leads to true innovation. You love taking the latest and greatest technology and building tools to create solutions for many to do amazing work. You have a full-stack understanding of software development and how elements from the front to the back end must interact to create meaningful, valuable, and easy-to-use software. You understand software engineering practices well and know when to inject some of these principles into today's development environments.This flexible hybrid onsite role is at our EA office in Vancouver. You will report to our senior principal technical director.As a Software Engineer at SEED, you will:Bring ideas from the R&D workbench into full-stack research-allowing technologies that help solve some of the most complex video game challenges, with an eye on production-readiness which can then be later distributed widely within the company in partnership with central technology programs.Build demos with the team using the latest research to showcase R&D across AI, content creation, and tools that improve game development.You will participate in code refactoring, tech hardening, and code review activities across several projects.Be one of the go-to people for building analytic tools and general software engineering development inside a team of accomplished researchers.Help with general engineering organisation and communication of the work across EA.Promote general data-craft practices within the team by teaching researchers how to improve data quality and scalability.Collaborate with other developers at SEED on projects where data analytics create novelty across SEED's projects that live at the intersection of many domains.Collaborate with game teams and central technology groups to understand their requirements better and bring expertise in overlapping areas related to the productization of R&D.Share your work through internal communities, external publications, speaking at conferences, or open sourcing.Gather requirements, develop, document and test data solutions to support team initiatives.Design scalable and reliable data solutions for data ingestion, transformation and distributionAs a diverse team with solid goals, we provide autonomy and true influence to each member of SEED. We are looking for an open and curious person who gets a kick out of taking new ideas, investigating them, and adapting their application to games. You have a desire to explore new areas of game development - someone who is passionate, creative, communicative, and invested.QualificationsA bachelor's degree in Computer Science3+ years of applied software engineering and gamedev experienceYou have a full-stack understanding of software developmentYou are familiar with machine learning conceptsYou have experience with source control tools like Git and PerforceYou have experience with real-time programming languages (such as C++ or C#)You have experience with scripting languages (such as R or Python)You have experience with relational databasesYou have experience with data analytics tools, such as SQL, Databricks, Power BI, and relatedYou have experience with some CSPs, including AWS, Azure, Databricks, or Google CloudYou are familiar with game development, game engines, and game development toolsOptionally, you understand computer vision conceptsOptionally, you are familiar with ML development frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlowYou work well within a team and want to collaborate with other researchers, engineers, artists, and designers.You are willing to travel for conferences and visit teams across EA studios.You care about video games.If you want to be part of-and work with-some of the most incredible people in the field, then SEED is your team!To learn more about SEED and our impactful work, check outBC COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSThe base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.BASE SALARY RANGESBritish Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):º $96,400 - $133,900 CAN AnnuallyBase salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.Electronic Arts
