The role will promote the McGill brand and UA’s overall content strategy through social-first storytelling and content creation. The Digital Communications Officer (Social) will develop, implement, track and optimize the social media activities of McGill University Advancement, with the goal of strengthening McGill’s relationship with alumni, donors, and other constituents. The role will develop and support the McGill brand through storytelling and content creation. Working the different units within Communications and across UA, the incumbent will be responsible for helping to meet marketing and communications objectives using social media and digital advertising.Primary Responsibilities:Independently and in collaboration with the Content Strategy team, generate and develop ideas for social-first storytelling to engage target audiences across the various McGill Alumni social media platforms, and recommend the optimal platforms for various content strategies.Create relatable and engaging content (ad copy, visuals, videos) to be used across the various McGill Alumni social media platforms.Manage, grow and optimize the day-to-day operations of UA’s social media efforts across a variety of platforms, including Instagram , Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter/XWorking closely with the UA Communications teams, develop effective and creative marketing strategies to drive traffic to social media, build brand awareness to grow users and increase engagement with existing users across a range of social media platforms.Collaborate with UA partners and stakeholders to produce a monthly content calendar across all platforms, and develop and maintain a consistent social media posting schedule for @McGillAlumniMaintain active social engagement with the alumni community and ensure queries through social media channels are responded to in a timely fashion.Work in close collaboration with the Associate Director, Project Management, and UA’s digital marketing agency to ensure alignment between UA’s organic social strategy and digital marketing and advertising campaigns in order to achieve identified fundraising and/or engagement objectives, and optimize UA’s social strategy across all channels.Provide just-in-time social media data points and analysis on a regular basis using a variety of analytical tools and continually find ways to improve on those metrics through testing and new initiatives.Leverage the reports, analysis and insights created by the Engagement Analytics team to adapt longer-term social engagement strategies in service of building brand awareness and affinity as well as increasing the ROI of campaigns.Research and review trends and best practices in social media and digital fundraising.Liaise with communications colleagues across the University to assist in the creation and promotion of digitally optimized content.Provide back-up support for McGill University Advancement’s email marketing platform.Performs other related duties.Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:Demonstrated experience creating compelling multimedia content (e.g., copy, video, visuals, and interactive content) tailored for different social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter) and target audiences.Proven ability to develop and execute high-quality social media campaigns to support organizational priorities (e.g., fundraising and alumni engagement initiatives).Proficiency in using social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social) and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics 4).Strong visual and creative skills with experience in photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).Demonstrated understanding of the latest digital marketing tools, including SEO/SEM best practices, keyword research, etc.Strong project management skills with proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects/campaigns simultaneously.Excellent interpersonal and relationship- building skills; ability to work autonomously and to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholder groups.Creative thinker with demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.Experience working in a PC and Microsoft Office environment (esp. Outlook and PowerPoint); knowledge of HTML and/or content management systems (Drupal, Wordpress) is an asset.Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
