POSITION: Health & Safety OfficerDEPARTMENT: Health & SafetyLOCATION: Newark, New JerseySALARY RANGE: $42,000 - 54,000 annualJOB NUMBER: 2022-1285-05DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:Nationally recognized environmental remediation contractor has an opening for a Health and Safety Officer to support remediation projects in the Newark, New Jersey area. This position reports directly to Sevenson’s Director of Health and Safety and indirectly to the Project Manager.The daily duties typically include:Support site management in implementing the site’s Safety and Health PlanConduct site specific training and site orientationPerform job site inspections to identify existing or potentially unsafe conditionsConduct investigations for near miss, injury, property damage eventsHelp with identifying root causes and assist supervision/management in developing corrective actionsCoach workers to properly follow risk mitigation strategies and effective use of PPEPrepare activity hazard analysis for upcoming tasks as well as audit existing activity hazard analysis for accuracyPromote a workplace with a positive safety cultureInteract with oversight and client personnel during progress meetings and site visitsPromote eliminating at risk behaviors through coaching and alternate methodologiesExecute emergency preparedness plan procedures and policiesConduct real time and integrated air monitoring as well as heat stress and noise monitoringEstablish exclusion and contamination reduction zonesGenerate daily activity and monitoring reportsProcure necessary PPE and other resources to support implementation of the safety programSKILLS/EXPERIENCE:Minimum 5 years’ experience as a site safety and health officer on dirt work or soil stabilization projects. Other job requirements include:Able to perform real time and integrated air monitoringAble to identify workplace hazards and recommend abatement strategiesPossess OSHA 30 hour Construction or General Industry Outreach CoursePossess OSHA 40 hour and subsequent 8 hour refresher HAZWOPER trainingCurrent first aid and CPR/AED training certificateMust have valid driver’s license and have good driving record (motor vehicle record reviewed as a condition of employment)Must be able to pass HAZWOPER physicalDesignated safety sensitive position, medical or recreational marijuana not permittedSALARY/BENEFITS:Salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
