We question the notion of in and out of Western seasonal style and look at historic models to understand new economies of scale and value, issues of labour and natural resources. Through lectures, workshops, and seminars, the class will consider how to harness past models to attain the future of textiles and fashion and the context surrounding the 3 R's, reduce, reuse, and recycle.Estimated Course Enrolment: 12 studentsEstimated TA Support (based on full course enrolment): N/AClass Schedule: Tuesdays 2:00-4:00 pm (In Person)*Please note, the delivery method for this course is currently In Person. In keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.Sessional dates of appointment: January 6, 2025 to April 30, 2025; Final Assessment period April 9-30, 2025.Please note: This position includes the completion of any course work and marking not finished by April 30, 2025.Salary:Sessional Lecturer I $9,457.90Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term $9,930.79Sessional Lecturer II $10,121.77Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term $10,326.62Sessional Lecturer III $10,362.76Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term $10,570.02Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Minimum qualifications:MA or PhD in Art History, Textile Studies, Fashion History or a closely related field or acceptable equivalent combination of education, relevant qualifications, professional designation, and/or professional experience.Demonstrated understanding of historical and contemporary textile and fashion production systems.In-depth knowledge of sustainability issues in the global fashion industry.Strong understanding of climate change impacts on the textile/fashion industry.Knowledge of labour issues and natural resource use in textile/garment production.Proven ability to analyze historical textile/fashion models and apply insights to contemporary changes.Talent for connecting historical knowledge to current industry practices and future possibilities.At least two years of experience creating and marking undergraduate assignments, exercises, and/or undergraduate essays in art history or a related field.Preferred qualifications:Previous teaching experience in this or a similar course at the university level.Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including: preparing and delivering one 2-hour lecture per week and/or leading classroom discussions during the 2 contact hours each week; developing and publishing the syllabus and marking scheme through Quercus; preparing relevant assignments for student assessment, and (if applicable) setting and invigilating term tests and final examination / assignments for student assessment; grading and reporting of final grades; maintaining office hours for academic counseling of students; answer queries by email or appointment.Application Instructions: All individuals interested in this position must submit (1) a curriculum vitae, (2) a proposed syllabus for the course, and (3) the to the Department via the .
