For detailed information on Benefits for this position, ?The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Anatomic Pathology Technician - Histology Technician.WORK SCHEDULEAlternate work shiftPer-diem/On Call (Intermittent)WHAT WE OFFERVacation time and sick time off that accrues monthly, including 12 paid holidays.Fully subsidized public transit pass (U-PASS) that covers multiple forms of public transportation in the region.Excellent healthcare, dental, disability, and retirement plan options.Lots of free fitness, healthy eating, finance, and stress reduction classes offered through the Whole U.State Employee Tuition Exemption Program covering up to 6 credits of qualifying coursework per quarter at the University of Washington or other participating colleges or universities.Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program as a UW employee.REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONSCertified, or certified within two years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of AmericaORequivalent education/experience.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the general supervision of the Histology Supervisor, the licensed Histology technician will perform histotechnology procedures such as processing, embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation and diagnosis by Pathologists.Job duties also include:Cut and embed various types of biopsy and surgical tissuesperform simple immunohistochemistry procedures;perform special stains via automated stainer and or manual staining;prepare laboratory solutions as needed in procedures;assist in Fine Needle Aspiration collection;Use, care and maintain histology instruments;Adhere to quality control and quality assurance requirements and perform low to medium complexity research projects.Independently monitors reagent use and prepares appropriate volumes needed, records daily instrument temperatures and performs preventative maintenance on instruments according to prescribed protocols.Successfully navigates the network computer to accession clinical and research cases, order simple lab tests, review work lists and provide case status to inquiring pathologists and clinicians.May assist in procedures in various services of anatomic pathology as assigned.ABOUT USA regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for innovative patient care, research and educational programs, the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology combines the sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic institution in its delivery of clinical and anatomic pathology services.
