We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Learn more on the Border Force careers page. Job description The Small Boats Operational Command (SBOC) exists to make irregular migration in small boats across the English Channel unviable. All stages of the operation, from detecting small boats at sea and migrants on land, to the full spectrum of interdiction options, involves technology. Implementing a strategy that promotes the capability enhancements that technology can deliver is an integral part of moving the current operational response from reactive to proactive. Ministers have a keen interest in innovative methodologies and, as a new command, there are substantial opportunities to improve ways of working and apply lessons learned from previously employed strategies. A function of the Chief Technology Officers (CTO) team is to fuse multiple source information into cutting edge intelligence products that are utilised to detect and prevent small boat crossings and illicit immigration facilitation. Your role will be to act as the Liaison Manager based within the new multi-agency Organised Immigration Crime Joint Fusion Cell at NCA HQ London. The post holder will work closely with the CTO Information and Projects Managers and these roles will be required to provide support and cover as necessary. Please note that the office is due to move from Spring Gardens to Stratford in 2025, however exact dates are yet to be decided. Person specification Responsibilities for this role are multi-faceted but primarily cover the following: Representing the CTO team and SBOC within the Organised Immigration Crime Joint Fusion Cell. Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders in the UK and overseas to develop opportunities for collaboration. Seeking opportunities to utilise CTO capabilities to assist partners in the UK and overseas to detect, prevent and prosecute those responsible for illicit immigration facilitation. Managing the flow of information and intelligence. Assuring all activity is compliant with UK legislation and Home Office policies. The successful candidate will be: Able to engage with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. A confident and clear communicator. A team player who is comfortable working both proactively and as part of a wider team. An experienced investigator who understands how to utilise information and intelligence to support proactive investigations to a successful conclusion. Essential criteria: Candidates are expected to demonstrate and /or have experience of: Must hold a minimum of SC clearance and be willing to obtain DV clearance once in post. Operational law enforcement experience, showing understanding of the laws around criminal prosecutions and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act. Being a qualified and experienced investigation manager, who has comprehensive understanding of investigating serious organised criminality in order to build successful criminal prosecutions. Experience in utilising sensitive and covert techniques to gather intelligence. Demonstrable ability to work at pace and effectively prioritise workflow in a fast-moving environment. Being a confident and clear communicator with the ability to inspire others, evidencing experience in communicating with multi-agency partners and senior officials. Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail with a consistent track record in strong partnership and stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills. Being a self-starter with a track record of working proactively with minimal supervision. Ability and evidence of working with technology - identifying, implementing and operating any new and evolving technology. Desirable criteria: An interest in technology and its role in supporting law enforcement operations. Experience of working with and managing multi-agency work areas. Being innovative, introducing and improving new and current ideas. Envisioning the future, taking risks, and using logic, reason and creativity to solve problems. The statement of suitability will be scored first for all candidates. Annual Hours Working Allowance We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and you would be required to work flexibly and operate over a 24/7 shift rota, this can include: Night shifts; Early morning starts, sometimes before 6am; Late night finishes, sometimes after midnight; Weekend and Public Holidays; Shifts can vary in length and can be up to 12 hours; Shifts that change or extend according to business need. These posts include shift allowances which varies by flexibility, shifts, location; however, the average allowance is 20%. You would be deployed to a range of different duties, shifts and locations and should expect to have a variance in the AHW dependent on the varying duties and shifts. The actual % of AHW paid will be for each region/port to decide, as these will be different depending in which port you may work.
