About us
Concorde International has organised and run a number of summer language and activity schools for adults, children and teenagers in the UK since 1972.
We are accredited by British Council and members of English UK and Young Learners English UK, ensuring we offer high quality courses , teaching and activities for our international students.
Summary
The HR Manager will be part of the SMT at Concorde International and will oversee the HR and recruitment for all existing personnel and the recruitment of around 200 new staff, many of whom are recruited for fixed-term contracts each summer for our summer centres.
The HR Manager will be the main lead for all staff and HR matters, working closely with department heads to identify and implement their individual needs and according to business levels at peak times.
The Role includes:
- Lead on Recruitment Activity
- Compliance Assurance and management
- Manage Orientation for New Employees & Contractors
- Staff appraisals and job descriptions
- Pastoral Support and Culture and reputation protection
- Measure Overall Training Effectiveness
The school is introducing new IT systems and part of the role is working with staff to maximise the use of the new software and integrate this within their roles.
This will include updating job descriptions and internal reviews of procedures which will be part of the ongoing SMT coordination.
Essential Requirements
- Experience in HR or recruitment
- CIPD Level 2 (Specialist Knowledge)
- Must be eligible to live and work in the UK
Desirable Requirements
- Excellent telephone manner
- Must be organised and efficient with administration
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook)
- Ability to work in a team

Safeguarding
All staff are subject to an Enhanced DBS check as part of our Safeguarding Policy and procedures.
The department focuses on our younger students aged from 5 to 17 years. You will familiarise yourself with, understand and adhere to, Concorde International’s Safeguarding Policy. Training and policies will be made available to you once employment has been confirmed.
Main purpose of the role
Your primary focus will be to review and update existing systems for permanent staff and prepare for the effective recruitment and preparation of suitable new and returning staff for our summer schools which run from June to September.
This is a permanent position working in our main school building in Canterbury city centre.
HR Policies and Procedures
You will be involved in updating and implementing new internal procedures for existing staff, including updating job descriptions and contracts following staff appraisals and wellbeing checks.
Working closely with SLT, advisory information and reports will need to be produced to inform SLT of any issues in current working practices and recommendations made.
New IT systems are being introduced which will need to be integrated with current working practices and existing HR and Recruitment procedures will need to be integrated within the new systems.
You will be responsible for maintaining a calendar for holiday / lieu bank / absence records and work with line managers to ensure that workloads can be managed effectively.
As the lead for all staff and HR matters, the HR Manager will have the opportunity to lead a collaborative team who are willing and able to embrace changes and make improvements.
Recruitment
- You will be involved in the implementation of new internal procedures for the recruitment of summer school staff (EFL Teachers and Activity Leaders)
- You will update / create job descriptions, contracts and relevant documentation for staff on fixed-term contracts
- You will prepare and publish job descriptions for recruitment advertising
- You will attend any recruitment fairs appropriate to the roles
- Maintaining personnel records for all summer school employees before, during and after the busy summer period
- Liaising with returning staff throughout the year
- Implementing, monitoring and updating the Facebook site for summer school employees
- Ensuring all personnel information and correspondence is treated in a confidential manner
- Responding to enquiries and applications within variable time constraints and arranging interviews
- Preparing and sending out the necessary documents required for the recruitment of
summer school personnel
- Arranging a weekly interview calendar for all Summer School staff involved in recruitment to allow for a reasonable balance of interview dates and times
- Checking for any missing documentation / incomplete forms and requesting the information is correct and updated
- Liaising with summer Centre Managers and Academic Managers re staffing on a regular basis
Management responsibilities
As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will prepare for and attend relevant meetings with Directors and other SLT members.
You will keep abreast of changes in HR legislation that could impact the organisation and ensue that HR remains compliant with legislation and our accreditation scheme requirements.
There may be times where you need to make difficult and unpopular decisions so you will need to be able to manage these professionally and within protocol.
General Administration
- Keep a calendar for Summer School office staff to operate by including staff holidays, time off, meetings, teacher availability etc.
- Assisting with the general office administration as part of the organisation
- Answering the telephone / greeting visitors effectively and taking down messages as necessary
- Processing DBS applications for new staff
Additional tasks during peak times
- On occasion there may be duties to perform in addition to those detailed above. Flexibility and common sense are fundamental attributes for this position.
- You may be required to visit our summer centres in order to check final recruitment documents for any last-minute applications.
Unsociable hours & Holidays
This position is predominantly Monday to Friday, however there may be occasions towards the start of the busy summer season when you may be required to work at other times.
Any additional hours worked will be taken as time off in lieu. Holidays cannot be taken in July as this is our peak time.
Remuneration
This is a position with immediate start and subject to a 6 month trial / probationary period. Salary is £30,000 per annum with 28 days paid holiday per year to include Bank Holidays and National Holidays.
