Resort General Manager

Location: The Mole Resort, Chittlehamholt, North Devon

Salary: £80,000 per year

Hours: Full time

Here at The Mole Resort, formerly the Highbullen Hotel, we have launched a brand-new resort set in acres of beautiful Devon countryside, jam-packed with delicious food and drink and a whole lot of exciting activities.

As a General Manager you will assume responsibility for all aspects of the business including brand development, financial performance and team engagement.


Job Description - General Manager


Department: Admin & General

Reports to: L+R Asset Manager (currently Matthew Beard)

Responsible for: General & Commercial Management


Scope and General Purpose of Job:


To formulate and drive TMR business success, by:


  • Driving a best-in-class commercial strategy optimising revenues across lodges, self-catering, hotel rooms, activities, membership club & ancillary income streams;
  • Ensuring fantastic guest service at all times driving satisfaction and FMS;
  • Hiring, motivating & managing TMR leadership team and fostering a fantastic colleague culture;
  • Maximising financial performance through rigorous cost & balance sheet control & revenue optimisation;
  • Champion the ESG strategy of TMR
  • Managing & mitigating risk through robust risk management across all areas of the business;


COMMERCIAL STRATEGY = DEVELOP AND DELIVER THE COMMERCIAL STRATEGY FOR TMR


  • Remain acutely abreast of the UK self-catering & hotel business models, including ancillary revenue opportunities of all guests through the volume of daily footfall in order to optimise revenues across lodges, self-catering, hotel rooms, activities, membership club & ancillary income streams
  • Liaise appropriately with external stakeholders including ownership providing market insights and strategic advice on TMR
  • Through the Commercial function, staying current with industry trends, assess the strengths and weaknesses of the competition, explore new business opportunities, and develop business plans to maximise profitability, guest satisfaction and market share
  • Direct the development and execution of revenue, sales and business development initiatives
  • Develop and manage relationship with members and wider local community, and take strategic action to maintain and improve TMR brand reputation
  • Take a pro-active approach to ensuring the continued long-term success of TMR
  • Ensuring a robust set of regular commercial meetings are plotted to deliver key strategic priorities
  • Provide clear, concise and timely communication to all stakeholders
  • Work with key stakeholders to drive improvements to the business
  • Effectively manage relationships with all external contacts, professional advisors and official bodies


GUEST SERVICE


  • Ensure managers and their teams are equipped to provide our guests and members with world class levels of service
  • Monitoring guest and member feedback, and as a team be accountable for meeting the needs of customers whilst delivering high quality service. Actively and swiftly address any service failures that arise
  • Take appropriate action with regards to guest and member feedback and utilise the metrics available to develop products and services
  • Set and drive the hotel operating standards

  • Creating a cohesive and high-performance management team that continuously strives for positive performance results and improvements, who are adept at crisis management

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE & PROFITABLE OPERATION


  • To ensure business targets for all revenues and profit are achieved or exceeded and effectively manage the cost elements of the income statement & the balance sheet risks of TMR
  • Ensuring operational departments are running efficiently and effectively, with a focus on optimising revenue, effective cost control, achieving customer satisfaction and the delivery of high operational standards
  • Develop the business case for any Capex, and project-manage delivery of the works within agreed time and budget Prepare and manage all departmental budgets
  • Actively keep abreast of annual contract changes, and engage with central procurement team function for group-wide opportunities
  • Appraise and monitor effectiveness of the hotel control practices relating to costs, expenses, wastage, breakages, security and stock control. Lead all business reviews (BRMs) and board meetings as appropriate and actively contribute to all forums
  • Avoid financial surprises - produce regular and accurate reports and financial statements, lead forecasting to identify and mitigate financial risks and to identify & deliver financial opportunities


ESG


  • Lead in the formulation, development & delivery of the overall strategy and business plans, including the company ESG/CSR, Environmental and Sustainability policies


RISK MANAGEMENT


  • Ensure managers and their teams embrace a robust and positive health & safety culture, and a regular maintenance and upkeep regime is implemented for all team and guests
  • Be accountable for appropriate legal governance and compliance, whilst achieving optimum audit scores in all H&S, food hygiene and licensing audits
  • Ensure adherence to national and local business laws, and regulations and company policies requirements including PCI compliance and GDPR
  • Maintain up to date risk registers with SMART objectives to mitigate risks throughout the business


General


  • Comply with company policies at all times
  • Champion the highest ethical standards throughout the business
