Job summary

Whilst DCMS is advertising this vacancy, the successful candidate(s) may ultimately be appointed to the newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

The Communications and Content Officer role sits within the Future Network Programmes (FNP) team in the Digital Infrastructure Directorate.

Within the Business Operations team, you will have a crucial role in helping the FNP programme deliver on its objectives. You will be responsible for taking a lead on ensuring the Programme engages with key partners and effectively communicates the value of the exciting projects we’re undertaking to Industry and the public.

Job description

Working under the FNP Engagement Lead, some of the responsibilities you’ll be expected to take on will be to:

  • Support on the Programme’s event engagement strategy and process
  • actively pursuing opportunities for the projects and programme representatives to speak and attend telecoms industry events and vertical events.
  • Lead on keeping the presentation pack updated and creating engaging content for Programme speakers including speeches and briefings for Ministers
  • Managing the upcoming engagement grid for the Programme engagements, events and project announcements and activity.
  • Organising Ministerial visits to projects.
  • Leading on comms calls with the projects and feeding back opportunities, updating the forward look grid and being their point of contact for their project comms work.
  • Create engaging content for digital media.
  • Help ensure communications from the Programme remain ‘on brand’ and work closely with the press and private offices to augment comms efforts
  • Ensuring a steady and consistent flow of engaging citizen focused content and that blends emotive storytelling with relevant news and calls to action.
  • Evaluation gathering and development for communications assets.

Person specification

Essential requirements:

  • Strong literacy skills and the ability to translate technical detailed information into clear and concise communications materials.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and to meet tight deadlines;
  • Proven ability to establish relationships with a range of stakeholders to support delivery of Programme objectives;
  • Excellent organisational skills with high attention to detail;
  • Sound judgement to inform good decisions, and the ability to quickly get up to speed with a broad range of work areas;
  • A collaborative approach to working with others and strong interpersonal skills;

Desirable skills:

  • Experience of operating in a fast-paced environment, rigorous prioritisation and managing a varied portfolio;
  • Experience of persuading and influencing senior managers and stakeholders to achieve Programme outcomes.
  • Experience of/desire to learn how to create digital marketing content.

Interview

The interview process will assess Behaviours and Strengths and potentially include a short assessment.

As part of your interview, you may be asked to complete a short task to assess your literacy skills.

You will not be made aware of the strengths being assessed prior to your interview.

In most cases interviews will take place remotely via Google Meet video call. However please refer to the Candidate Information Pack to confirm the interview approach.
