Job description

For the MOD to manage its utilities sustainably and reduce their impact on the environment, decisions need to be based on robust and reliable Data. We are looking for a data analyst to be responsible for analysing, monitoring and reporting on the quality of global Defence energy, water and waste infrastructure data.

DIO Utilities Data Team have the largest data set in DIO, reporting on over 20,000 global supply points every month. You’ll be working with our Chief Information Office and Data Exploitation team to develop ways to deliver and measure excellent data quality for use in both internal and public reporting.

Have the exciting opportunity to improve data granularity through the management of reference data. And be expected to effectively communicate data quality, issues to both technical and non-technical customers across the senior leadership team, armed forces and other Defence organisations.

DIO RD Utilities provides a centralised service to MOD customers through the effective management of its energy supply contracts. The team covers key estate utility related functions including bill payment, third-party recoveries, supplier management, query resolution, and global MOD data management & reporting services.

Person specification

  • Capture and report key data and quality metrics to senior leadership
  • Determine route cause for data quality issues and work with the Data Team drive activity
  • Communicate progress reports on data quality risks, activity and issues.
  • Analyse the system data to ensure it reflects good data quality (timely, accurate, complete and verified)
  • Ensure that business processes are being followed and suggest any changes for improvement
  • Work with Chief Information Office and Data Exploitation teams to automate data quality checks
  • Be responsible for leading the Reference Data Improvement Programme to improve granular reporting potential
  • Foster corporate knowledge to inform your Data quality priorities.
  • Horizon Scanning for any data potential risks and opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Manage queries relating to Data quality
  • Deputies as Data Steward for MOD infrastructure Utilities Data
  • Build a clear picture of portfolio and profile for Energy, Water and Waste data
  • Have line management responsibilities

Employment Hours

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

Your suitability for the role will be assessed using the Success Profile elements that have been chosen for this campaign. Each element will be scored accordingly, and the successful candidate will be appointed on merit.

Applications will be sifted on all Success Profile elements, but in the event of a high number of applications, an initial sift will be conducted on the Managing a Quality Service behaviour. In this instance the remaining elements will be tested at interview.

We want to offer opportunities to all who are successful at interview for our roles, but this isn’t always possible, so we do hold candidates on an active reserve list for 12 months. It is also possible that we may offer similar lower graded role/s to reserve candidates or, if no reserves are appointed, candidates that meet the lower grade criteria in merit order.
