Working as a Computational Fluid Dynamics Consultant, you will be accountable for undertaking detailed engineering analysis in the field of computational fluid mechanics within the built environment. The team prides itself in being not only professional and proactive, but very supportive of colleagues, ensuring a friendly and collaborative atmosphere in our everyday work practices.
Undertake detailed engineering analysis in the field of computational fluid mechanics within the built environment including gathering information, carrying out simulation work, presentation of results and formal reporting.
Plan and manage computer simulation work through communication and collaboration with internal and external clients
Preparation of fee proposals for project work under the guidance of senior staff
Represent BH at meetings with the client, other professionals and suppliers.
Ensure service and project work are carried out within agreed deadlines and within budget.
Ensure senior staff are kept informed of important and relevant design decisions
Actively participate in marketing activities to raise the profile of the analysis discipline both externally and within the company.
Coordinating their work with other members of the project team.
Ensuring senior staff are informed of client matters.
Mentor and assist more junior members of the team
Commitment to CPD and self learning / development
Degree in Engineering that meets the engineering academic requirements for chartered engineer status
A current member of and working towards Chartered membership of a relevant Institution eg CIBSE
Experience of modelling the environmental performance and climate within and around buildings using computational fluid dynamics.
Understanding of heat transfer, mass flows and fluid environments physics.
Experience of computer based building simulation
Experience managing analysis projects and communication with designers.
Ability to present and explain complex physics in a simple and understandable manner to architects and designers.
Regular use of Ansys CFX and CFD codes in steady state and time dependant simulations.
Experience with meshing complex geometry
Proficient use of XL based spreadsheet tools including authoring macros
Presentation skills using Powerpoint, Word and / or other DTP packages (InDesign)
Experience in buit environment CFD simulation, wind, internal and external comfort.
Ability to develop and tailor scripts (phyton, grasshopper)
Ability to understand and process complex 3D geometry (CAD, Rhino, Sketchup or Revit).
Regular use of other CFD code
Experience of daylight simulation (using IES, Radiance, Ecotect)
System simulation including IES HVAC and TRNSYS
Post-occupation evaluation (POE)
Research – relevant EngD or PhD
Programming / authoring experience
Experience of BREEAM, LEED and other environmental assessment tools
Use of other simulation tools eg EQuest and Energy+ and experience of ASHRAE 90.1
Part L and EPC experience and relevant qualifications to carry out and complete Building Regulations submissions.
