We (Jacobs) are a global multi-disciplinary professional advisory firm with a talent force of c.55,000 based in 40 countries. You would join our UK Energy Consulting Services team, based at one of our UK or European offices. Our fast-growing Energy Consulting Services team is part of our global network of c.1,200 Energy and Power professionals who work collaboratively to help our clients address the challenges and take forward the opportunities in the Energy Transition. We work with leading international energy companies (power generation, oil and gas, transmission & distribution), large energy consumers (IT, Aviation, Transport, Industrial & Manufacturing), and government/ public sector.
Primary responsibilities

About the Opportunity

Within our Energy Consulting Services Team we advise clients on the challenges and opportunities regarding decarbonisation/net zero issues specifically in relation to requirements for delivering the global energy transition. This includes decentralised, decarbonised generation and management, innovation in technologies and energy sources, as well as policy and regulatory support.
We are currently seeking a hydrogen technical specialist to expand our team to help deliver continued growth in our services and greater value to our client’s requirements. A key element of this is being at the forefront of dynamic change, in terms of energy generation, management and distribution.

The successful candidate will have proven project engineering and delivery experience of hydrogen projects in an engineering or consulting environment, including hydrogen production technologies and their applications. A technical understanding of how this relates to project development and integration of hydrogen solutions with the rest of the energy system will also be beneficial.
The successful candidate will also be able to work collaboratively with our operations and sales teams to provide client focus and support, innovative solutions to our clients most challenging problems, connect and nurture our technical resources and evolve a hydrogen/alternative energy technical practice that is future ready.

It is not essential that your background is in the Power or Energy sectors, as we recognise that hydrogen is an evolving sector and that key resources may transition from other industries to participate in the evolving hydrogen sector.

The Role

In your role, you’ll provide Project Design Management and Design Engineering leadership for a range of opportunities including hydrogen production and storage, distribution and export, end user infrastructure and hydrogen hubs/valleys/clusters.
To support these services, you’ll lead a range of activities from feasibility design through to the preparation of technical specifications, production of detailed construction drawings and design compliance checks throughout the design process.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading teams and delivery of consultancy projects, delivering on time and to budget
  • Actively participating in client engagement and business development opportunities in pursuit of future work for the business
  • Ensuring concept and detailed designs meet client scoping requirements and compliance with industry and client technical specifications
  • Conducting engineering reviews, quality assurance checks and approval of design drawings, reports, construction programmes and other deliverables
  • Acting as main point of contact with the client during the various design phases.
  • Carrying out system design studies

Energy Consulting Services is a specialist engineering, strategy and advisory practice operating within Jacobs’ Energy & Power business, focused on managing our clients’ risks and creating solutions that support change driven predominantly by net zero goals and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments. These risks, posed by a changing climate, increasing technological innovation, changing regulatory landscape, new emerging global economies, major energy security issues and market disruptions, have created unprecedented challenges that demand systemic change across all sectors. With our deep technical, commercial and strategic energy expertise across the whole energy system we develop solutions that address our clients’ critical challenges around decarbonisation and the energy transition, including whole system efficiency, electrification of demand, digitalisation and opportunities in decentralised energy.
