Job Introduction

BBC Studios’ Kids & Family portfolio boasts some of the most exciting and successful local and global franchises in the world, with BAFTA and International Emmy winning craft and storytelling. Working with a mix of established talent and new and diverse voices including Dame Jaqueline Wilson, Julia Donaldson and Laura Henry-Allain and best in class on-screen talent like Rosamund Pike, Javonne Prince and Tamsin Greig, its hugely popular shows include Blue Peter, JoJo & Gran Gran, My Mum Tracy Beaker, Ferne and Rory, Something Special, Bluey, Hey Duggee and Sarah & Duck.

Blue Peter, CBBC’s flagship factual entertainment programme, is looking for a Forward Planning Assistant Producer for a 12-month Fixed Term Contract/Attachment.

If you love coming up with creative ideas and working with kids we want to hear from you!

Blue Peter is the longest running programme children’s TV series in the world, an inspirational, factual entertainment brand that constantly evolves to remain relevant to our UK kids’ audience. Every week, we encourage kids to join in, find out new stuff, be creative and adventurous – and earn their very own BP badge. We feature brilliant kids, celebrating their lives, ideas and representing their experiences and through presenter challenges, entertaining guests, competitions and creative ideas we want to help kids find out about the world, inspiring people and discover things to do.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive the creative ambition of Blue Peter – working to the Producers, SP and Editor, you'll have a strategic role in helping influence the future direction of the brand; including originating VT ideas, booking guests that resonate with our audience, setting up locations and finding brilliant contributors.

This is primarily an office-based position (including some remote WFH) but you may be required to work on location and/or in studio sometimes too.

Main Responsibilities
  • This role will be responsible for generating studio, film and interactive ideas for Blue Peter as well as assisting the Editor and Series Producer in developing the content strategy for the series.
  • You will have a natural eye for a story and be up to date on current trends (including social media / influencers)
  • You will be able to work up well considered ideas for Blue Peter content with detailed and engaging pitches.
  • You must have proven communication skills, and be able to build excellent relationships with a wide variety of partners both within the BBC and externally.
  • A good knowledge of the Blue Peter band and what makes a compelling item for the show is essential.
Are you the right candidate?
  • Experience of working across a range of productions at AP level
  • Proven experience of developing item ideas from concept to pitch for studio, film and interactive.
  • Ability to develop creative ideas which engage a children’s audience, run brainstorms, give feedback and pitch ideas
  • A track record of building excellent working relationships with large and often high-profile organisations and individuals.
  • An organised creative able to stay across many different potential ideas and work these up according to the priorities of the brand.
  • A thorough knowledge of the kids audience, Blue Peter and what will work well for the brand across TV and online.
  • Experience of working with young contributors, knowing how to shape content that involves kids to ensure they are at the heart of the output.
  • Experience of working on a magazine show is not essential but would be an advantage.
