An exciting opportunity has arisen for a General Allied Health Professional Assistant to be part of a new and dynamic integrated multi-disciplinary team, SCOPE working with individuals with a learning disability and/or autism who have complex care requirements. The team will be supporting individuals from the age of 14 years and upwards at different life stages, from transition from school into adulthood, moving to their own accommodation and beyond into older age.

The team will be made up from disciplines from both Health and Social Care, such as Social Workers, Outreach Workers, Psychology, Family Group Decision Making Coordinator and aligned to NHS services that include Speech and Language Therapist, Physio Therapy, Dietetics, Psychiatry and Community Learning Disability Nurses. The team will link with local partners such as Education and Children’s services, Housing, other Health Services and 3rd Sector.
SCOPE will be leading in developing locally based provision, which will improve the lives of those with complex care requirements as well as their families and carers. The team will have a whole person approach and will embed the principles of positive behavioural support into the delivery of provision.
The role of the Allied Health Professional Assistant will be intrinsic to this work, supporting individuals in their own homes as well as out in the community, inform assessment and support to implement positive behaviour strategies, which will improve the lives of the individuals as well as families, carers and the provider of care. Your role will be to support the Allied Health Professionals that are integrated and aligned with the SCOPE team (O.T, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Dietetics). You will be supervised by the TL10 Occupational Therapist within the SCOPE team. As this is a new team the Allied Health Professional Assistant role will be at the forefront of developing new service and help shape how support is delivered to those with most complex care requirements. The Allied Health Professional Assistant will work autonomously taking a lead role to manage a caseload of clients to support in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating interventions with a specific focus on the presentation and support measures in relation to Autism, Learning Disabilities and mental health. The team will be centrally based in Perth with access to accommodation in both the North and South localities.

Requirements

We are looking for individuals who have experience of working with vulnerable people in the community, with indepth knowledge of Learning Disability and Autism. Having an understanding of individuals who are vulnerable or at risk is also essential. We are looking for individuals who have good communication skills, both verbal and written. They also need to be able to cope under pressure and respond to the needs of individuals when they are displaying stress and distress behaviours.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND VALUES REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB
Your performance must comply with the national “Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers 2009” and with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.
Knowledge of current best practice in area of Autism, Learning Disability and Transitions - both diagnostic practices and ongoing management strategies assessment and knowledge of Occupational Therapy, Psychology and Community Nursing practices.
Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance enhancing clinical reasoning
Complete delegated assessments within agreed protocols and after relevant training from a registered Allied Health Professional provide feedback on patients/clients functional/physical/mental status
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships within team and across all agencies
Computer literacy, e.g. e-mails, patient documentation, online fora such as MS Teams / NearMe and treatment media.
Understanding of professional ethics/standards and their application in practice
Knowledge and application of current legislation/policy e.g. Keys to Life, Adult and Child Protection, Health and Safety, Risk Awareness / Management, Principals into Practice for Transitions and Autism Strategy.
To have the ability to work flexibility and adapt to the changing demands of the work.
To be able to work on their own but also work with well within a team.
To compassionate in their approach, treating individuals with dignity and respect.
To be willing to develop their knowledge and skills to meet the needs of those who are the most vulnerable in society to ensure that the have better outcomes.
To keep up to date with professional and NHS Trust/NHS Scotland guidelines.
To contribute to and implement strategic and policy development for the SCOPE Team.
To act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community.
