The Opportunity

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join our High Wycombe Engineering team to help develop and manage Productionisation, New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Improvement (CI) and Quality Outflow Prevention.

Location and Working Hours

Based at our High Wycombe site.

Typical working hours are 8.00am-4.30pm Monday-Thursday, with a 1pm finish every Friday, plus the option of flexible hours.

About the Role

The key responsibilities involve:
Developing and leading a team of engineers to provide resources, skills and support to the NA and MR Manufacturing Teams.
Review our current Manufacturing Engineering processes; develop a vision and roadmap for future best in class performance. Implement the plan in collaboration with the Operations team.
Improve and maintain a robust NPI & Engineering change process.
Productionisation of our product, standardise best practice and improve repeatability.
Contribute to design reviews in ensuring that our product is designed for Manufacture & Assembly and meet goals on operational efficiency, yield, costs and quality.
Work with the other Operational departments to ensure that the MRP System is appropriately planning for Supply and Production processes. Ensure the PLM & MRP Systems meet the agreed cost, quality and delivery objectives.
Quality Outflow prevention, in providing robust poka yoke solutions to ensure that Oxford Instruments maintain its industry leading position.
Six sigma analysis of in-house yield and warranty returns, utilising a lean approach in implementing preventative solutions.
Mentoring of Lean 6Sigma Projects to promote development of the business and knowledge of individuals.

About You

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will ideally have the following skills and attributes: Experience of successfully productionising prototype product. Experience of implementing poka-yoke manufacturing fixtures, test systems and techniques New Product Introduction & Engineering Change Management experience Qualifications : Relevant Engineering degree or similar preferred. Candidates with a strong experience supplemented with vocational qualifications will also be considered. Technological: Understands the technical issues associated with manufacture of X-ray detector or similar products and use of relevant production technology preferred, although not essential, if the Manufacturing skills have been developed in another industry. Vision: Develops a clear view of the medium-term (2-3 year) direction of Manufacturing Engineering. Anticipates changing requirements within the function/department (e.g. internal/external customer, technical and staff). ‘Stands outside’ day-to-day activities and sees how these relate to the wider business. Breadth of thinking: Understands and takes account of interdependencies and links between different parts of the business and how they influence productivity, quality, etc. Thinks through the impact of own actions on other parts of the business. Process Management: Understands how business processes can be used to reduce cost and improve performance. Leads the changes (e.g. adoption of common processes) required to exploit process improvement for the benefit of the business Proactivity: Identifies and takes advantage of opportunities to achieve (and exceed) business objectives. Initiates actions to develop new and better ways of working, using past experience and any mistakes as positive opportunities for improvement. Customer focus: Has a sound appreciation of the current and future requirements of internal and external customers. Establishes and exploits good, mutually beneficial customer relationships. Places customer satisfaction as the highest priority. Leadership: Leads by actively communicating the business objectives and expectations to staff and giving effective feedback.
