Health and Wellbeing Project Coordinator

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Contract: Fixed term (Initially 12 months)
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000

Department: Social, Education and Health

Reports to: Health and Wellbeing Manager

Brentford FC Community Sports Trust (BFCCST)

BFCCST, established in 1987, is an award-winning charity with an annual income set to hit £4m per annum within the next 3 years. Working with key partners across the private, public and voluntary sectors it has achieved numerous accolades, including winning Football League Community Club of the Year award on four separate occasions.

The Trust delivers programmes spanning sports participation, education, social inclusion, community cohesion and health. Further significant expansion is planned following its appointment as a key partner in the redevelopment of Gunnersbury Park as a sports hub, and its move to new, larger, purpose-built premises directly adjacent to the new Brentford FC 17,500 capacity stadium near Kew Bridge. Promotion to the Premier League presents exciting new opportunities and there is everything to play for!

At Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, we adopt a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, providing one-off workshops and events, fixed-term courses, and regular activity sessions to help tackle the various public health challenges being faced within our local community. We are significantly increasing our delivery within this remit, including implementing new projects focusing specifically on mental health, and we are looking to hire a new member to join our team to drive this area of work forward.

Safeguarding Statement

Brentford FCCST is committed to equality, the safeguarding and welfare of all children and adults at risk. This responsibility is shared by all staff and volunteers at the club, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Staff will be required to undertake regular safeguarding training to enable and reinforce a proactive approach to safeguarding. This role requires the post holder to apply all relevant policies and uphold the club’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable people to ensure a safe environment for all. This includes the timely reporting of any safeguarding concern to the safeguarding team.

Main Purpose of Job:

We are looking for an ambitious and personable project coordinator who is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of our local community. You will work with a proactive approach to deliver high quality and accessible community health programmes with a specific focus on mental health.

We understand the value of physical activity and know the positive impact that exercise can have on physical and mental health. The Health Project Coordinator will be responsible for delivering programmes that draw on the power of sport and physical activity, combined with mental health activities, to support participants to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. You will be working closely with specific target groups, including refugees and people seeking asylum and forensic community service users.

You will be joining a small but growing team and we need someone who can hit the ground running and activate new programmes, with the support of the Health and Wellbeing Manager.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and enjoy working with autonomy. You will also be confident working in a fast-paced environment and will have efficient time management skills.

Responsibilities:

· To plan, deliver and manage specific programmes that combine physical activity with mental health activities.

· To be responsible for the efficient capture, input, and management of participant information

· To report programme outcomes and impact, as required by the funders

· To signpost individuals to appropriate health and social care professional/services where required

· To be an advocate for best practice and promote the work of BFCCST within the community, including promoting positive physical and mental wellbeing practices

· To build and maintain good working relationships, both internally and externally, always maintaining a professional image

· To ensure all BFCCST safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to

· To promote our programmes to our target audience and engage with participants, ensuring sessions are well attended and meaningful for our target groups

Role Specification
Essential:

· A degree or relevant qualification in a related subject area such as public health, sport psychology, health and social care

· Strong working knowledge and understanding of mental health and the role physical activity can play in its management

· Experience of delivering mental health interventions to targeted groups

· Demonstrable experience of programme management and delivery

· Excellent knowledge of societal health & wellbeing challenges and health-based systems

· An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures

· Current Emergency First Aid Certificate (or willingness to update)

· Current Mental Health First Aid Certificate (or willingness to update)

· Current Safeguarding Certificate (or willingness to update)

Desirable:

· Previous exposure to working in partnership with the NHS to deliver health programmes

· Experience of marketing and growing programmes in hard to engage communities

· Knowledge of our local community and the issues being faced by residents

· A minimum Level 2 fitness instructor qualification

· Experience of delivering group exercise classes to a diverse range of participants

· Mind Mental Health Awareness for Sport & Physical Activity certificate

· FA Level 1 Football Coaching qualification

Person Specification:

· A passion for improving the health and wellbeing of others

· Confident working independently as well as alongside colleagues at all levels within the organisation

· An ability to engage, motivate and inspire people

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – both written and verbal

· Effective organisation and time management skills

· A proactive approach to seeking out best practices and new ideas to improve delivery

· An understanding of the value of tracking participation and impact

· ICT literate, including an ability to use MS Office programmes to intermediate level

· Ability to prioritise and work within deadlines

· Capacity to work some unsociable hours including evenings and weekends

· A commitment to continued learning and development
