Job description
We are currently recruiting Apprentices to join our team. Join the Colas Rail Level 3 Design Apprenticeship Scheme today to jumpstart your career and begin to provide you with the technical skills that you will need to realise your potential. The duration of the scheme is between 2 and 3 years, dependant on your specialism; whether this be OLE, Signalling, Design, Survey, Traction & Rolling Stock or Track.

As an apprentice with Colas Rail, you will be enrolled on the Level 3 Design Apprenticeship Programme and you can expect to be working closely with our experienced designers, engineers and management on improving the UK rail systems.
As part of your apprenticeship scheme you will attend block release training to learn the more advanced skills of your technical specialism and throughout your programme we will support you with all the technical training that you will need to become a competent design technician.
We will give you the opportunity to continuously learn and develop your skills and knowledge, with the goal to helping you achieve Design Technician status with a relevant professional institution. It is very important to us that you only think of your apprenticeship scheme as the very start of your journey with Colas Rail because this is going to be just the beginning of an exciting, challenging and very rewarding career.

Person requirements
We're looking for bright, enthusiastic and determined people who can work both independently and in a team. For all our Apprenticeship Programmes, we are looking for a minimum of a Grade C or 4 in Maths and English, and the ability to stand out, by your previous work experience or extracurricular activities. We are also looking for apprentices who share our ethics and behaviours, but are not afraid to look at ways in which we can continuously improve.

Qualification and experience requirements
For all our Apprenticeship Programmes, we are looking for a minimum of:
- Grade C or 4 in Maths and English
- Strong desire to pursue development in the railway industry.
- Both weekends and nights will be part of the working schedule.
- Eligibility to work in the UK
