Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

To ensure productivity within the area of your responsibility by providing quality engineering support to the site

JOB DIMENSIONS:

· People: Requirement to liaise effectively with operational, technical, health & safety, environment management, and people external to the organization including machinery including OEM Suppliers , contractors and supplier of specialist services. Maintain open dialogue with wider team to identify issues before they arise.

· Provision of Engineering Services: Assist in the management, organisation and maintenance of production methods best available techniques and processes within your area of responsibility and around site

· Engineering Information Management Systems: maintain management information systems to aid the management and reporting of KPI’s including, budget control, PUWER compliance, stock control and Planned Preventative Maintenance program for all factory machinery

· Continuous Improvement: Assist the department manager in the continuous improvement in performance and cost effectiveness of processes, plant and machinery by Improving existing operations and incorporating new methods and processes working strictly to given KPI’s.

Health and Safety: To keep and maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.

Paperwork: Complete and record all associated documentation, store and deliver relevant paperwork according to procedure to allow traceability etc.

Procedures: Working to strict manufacturing, health and safety and technical procedures to ensure standards and safe working is achieved.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

· Lead and control the Engineering Shift in their duties, showing a “can do” attitude to all tasks

· Train and manage the team to provide relevant skills and knowledge, allowing them to carry out their duties effectively

· Ensure adequate engineering cover during holidays, training, and sickness

· Maintain safe systems of work and environment. Ensure safe working practices at all times, completing relevant permit to work where applicable

· Implement the planned preventative maintenance plan and ensure all works carried out to the highest engineering standards and quality

· Work closely with the relevant operations manager to prioritise breakdowns and reactive maintenance and any planned preventative maintenance scheduling

· Ensure regular feedback to the Engineering Manager or Operational and maintenance issues

· Ensure Excellent G.E.P (Good Engineering Practices) always including a “clean as you go policy”

· Give regular feedback to the Engineering Manager to ensure training needs are met

· Ensure the discipline of your shift and that Company procedures are followed at all times, taking appropriate action where necessary

· Show financial control when assessing and repairing processes and ordering spares

· Liaise with contractors and control their works within site. Ensure that all works are in line with company requirements and relevant permits to work are completed.

· During the absence of the Engineering Manager, you would be required to cover the role of Duty Engineer, dealing with various site problems and decision making

· Ensure all accidents and near misses are dealt with according to company procedure

In addition, you will undertake any training that the company deems necessary that may assist you to affect the above responsibilities.

Compliance

· Ensure that you understand and adhere to your personal responsibilities with regard the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 or Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order SI 1978/1039

o Take reasonable care for your own and other's health and safety while at work and to Co-operate with your employer on health and safety matters.

o Anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare must not be intentionally or recklessly interfered with or misused.

o Responsible for completion and documentation of line start up safety checks to include machinery, lighting, flooring, fire escape routes, housekeeping standards.

o Responsible for monitoring & reviewing staff behaviors, challenging unsafe behavior’s / practices and correcting them.

o Responsible to ensure compliance to company policies, procedures, site rules and information and instruction given by your employer.

· To respect and honour the sentiment of the Cranswick ethical policies and codes of conduct, when always interacting with your colleagues.

· To work in an Environmental and Energy efficient manner and to respect and honour the sentiment of the Cranswick Environmental and Energy policies and Second Nature principles.

· Where there are any Environmental Permit conditions in place, to ensure that where you have direct influence on these areas, then these are adhered to within the required limits.

· To work in partnership with the Senior Management team on site to be part of the Culture of the site which drives Food Safety, H&S, Ethical, Environmental and Energy behaviours.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

Engineering HND qualified or equivalent- desired

Minimum of 3 years hand on experience preferable within the food industry.

Apprentice Trained

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

Essential:

· Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel) and e-mail/calendar systems.

· Ability to analyse data and produce daily, weekly and monthly reports.

· Good written and verbal skills.

· Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.

· Experience with electrical, pneumatic hydraulic systems

· Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment to deadlines.

· Experience in a Supervisory position.
