Vice Principal – Culture, Pastoral Care and Inclusion

Location:

Duke’s Aldridge Academy

Purpose:

OVERALL OBJECTIVES FOR THE POST:

· As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice Principal will share responsibility for the ethos, management and strategic leadership of the academy. They will also play an active role in developing, sustaining and modelling the skills, attributes and behaviours of a high-performing leadership team.

· Carry out the professional duties of a school teacher, as set out in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).

SLT, subject teachers, pastoral teams and admin team

195 days (Full time)

Salary:

L22-L25 £82,662- £88,325

Responsibilities:

Key Strategic Responsibilities

· To provide strategic leadership of the school’s policies and procedures in order to secure excellent attitudes to learning by all students across the Academy. Produce, evaluate and maintain a strategic plan for improving the attitude to learning and behaviour in the school

· Provide strategic leadership of the school’s policies and practices in order to secure excellent attendance and punctuality by all students across the Academy.

· Lead on establishing and implementing a safe, calm and well-ordered environment for all students and staff, focused on developing exemplary behaviour in the Academy and the wider community.

· Lead and support the Student Service team to identify and intervene with vulnerable students so that they can progress and achieve high standards compared to other students

· Strategically plan and implement interventions that enable all students to overcome personal obstacles and challenges so that they make maximise their success and progress

· Lead on the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Academy’s behaviour policy and associated strategies

· Support the work of the Assistant Principal for Student Wellbeing and Personal Development and safety so that all students in the Academy benefit from attending an Academy with an exemplary safeguarding culture. In providing high quality Line Management in these area, the school will fulfil its wider commitment to develop and deliver high quality mental health and wellbeing strategies and have the Personal Development of all students at the heart of all that we do.

· Support the work of the SENDCo so that all students, regardless of their learning, social and emotional needs, benefit from a school culture and provision that is genuinely inclusive. In providing high quality Line Management in this area, the Academy will ensure that all the professionals are clear as to how to support and challenge students to achieve their best, regardless of their needs or starting points.

· Promote excellent classroom behaviour and attitudes to learning by leading on structured support and coaching for all departments and support staff.

· Track, monitor and evaluate attitudes to learning, behaviour, attendance and punctuality across the Academy and implement quality assurance procedures working closely with the Assistant Principal for Student Wellbeing and Personal Development, reporting regularly to the Principal.

· Liaise effectively with external agencies and providers in order to broker, commission and evaluate the impact of alternative provision in seeking to re-engage vulnerable students and to reduce the prospect of exclusion.

· To ensure the highest quality pastoral care and development for all students, including those with Special Educational Needs

· To ensure that all students are effectively safeguarded at all times

· To create and maintain effective systems of behaviour, attendance and punctuality

The Vice Principal will be a visionary leader who:

· Will work with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team to grow the long-term success of the school

· Shall contribute to and communicate the Academy’s shared vision

· Effectively implement the vision through agreed objectives and operational planning

· Can motivate others to create a shared learning culture and positive climate

· Demonstrate clear values and moral purpose

· Implement and assure strategies that secure high standards of behaviour and attendance across the whole school

· Challenge underperformance at all levels and ensures corrective action, follow up and support

School Culture and Behaviour

The Vice Principal will work with the SLT to:

· Create a culture where students experience a positive and enriching school life

· Uphold educational standards in order to prepare students from all backgrounds for their next phase of education and life

· Ensure a culture of staff professionalism rooted in mutual respect and the pursuit of excellence.

· Encourage high standards of behaviour from students, built on rules and routines that are understood by staff and students and clearly demonstrated by all adults in the academy

· Use consistent and fair approaches to managing behaviour, in line with the academy’s behaviour policy

· To be a proactive member of the leadership group and advise the Principal and Assistant Principals as appropriate on all matters relating to the Vice Principal’s area of responsibility

· To take the lead in promoting the best educational practice in the school and to manage change effectively

· Leadership of ongoing strategic development in the relevant whole-school areas of responsibility

· To participate in the review, monitoring and evaluation of performance standards across the school

· To take responsibility for a significant area of the academy including designated staff

· To participate in academy review and appraisal processes and to act as a team leader where appropriate

· Contribute to the crafting, implementation and review of the SEF, AIP and other whole-school documentation, producing timely information on achievement and standards.

· Lead on whole-school strategies from the priorities within the AIP and in agreement with the Principal.

· Challenge under-performance at all level and ensure effective support and challenge is in place when standards are not met.

· Develop and embed a programme of self-evaluation within and across departments so that insightful and timely self-evaluation leads to improved teaching practice for all staff.

· Keep up to date with developments in education on a local and national level and bring new ideas and thinking into the school where this would benefit or enhance ways of working.

· Play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and encourage and ensure staff and students follow this example

· Comply with the academy’s health and safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate

· Work within the framework of the academy’s ethos, adhering to the Code of Conduct for staff at all times

· To maintain high standards of professional behaviour and presentation

· Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be required from time to time

· All staff are expected to take part in necessary training and staff development

· To undertake any other duties as specified by STPCD not mentioned in the above
