About the job

Job summary

Almost every individual and business in the UK is a direct customer of HMRC, as we collect the money that pays for the UK’s public services and gives people who need it vital financial support. Over recent and coming years, our work never has been, nor will be, more critical as we rebuild and secure our nation’s future.

With these demands in mind, and as one of the largest and most digitally focussed organisations in the UK, we are undergoing a thrilling change programme. This era will see us cement our position as a fiscal world leader, with a real-time, resilient, and fully digital tax system. Our team of 4,000 digital experts is in fact undertaking one of the biggest digital and technology transformations in Europe, as we drive towards a high performing landscape of cutting-edge technology.

As part of this transformation, we require a skilled Business Architect to ensure that the decisions that we make are consistent with the overall strategic road maps. This includes several key strategic digital priorities, including real-time transactional information and a single customer account, enabling customers to access all their data and undertake all their interactions with HMRC in one place.

Job description

As a skilled business architect and leader, you will:

  • Connect strategy and delivery by building a broad range of connections across HMRC, in addition to influence, educate and enlighten.
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking and your prowess as a thought-leader within business architecture to support the design of innovative solutions that support our strategies.
  • Lead support and enable a focussed team of business architecture and analysis professionals through a transformational journey.
  • Re-orientate many of our IT systems, legislative framework, and business processes to deliver optimal systems and real time reporting across a complex range of transactions.
  • Understand the end-to-end journeys of our customers to ensure that our systems and technology meet their needs.
  • Develop several strategic roadmaps to support the delivery of our ambitions.
  • Collaborate with our Chief Technology Officer and a broad range of technical colleagues and partners, to support the design of a world-class architecture and platform.
  • Network and collaborate across Government and wider partners to ensure that the latest innovative thinking and strategies are shared.

Person specification

As an established expert and leader in the field of business architecture, you will have extensive experience of guiding a large and complex organisation through a significant period of change or transformation.

This role is open to public sector and private sector candidates and would suit someone with experience of working inside large scale organisations. Your work and legacy will affect millions of people and raise your profile across Government to the highest levels as an expert in Business Architecture.

Benefits

At HMRC we are committed to creating a great place to work. A diverse, inclusive, and vibrant organisation, where everyone is supported and valued. We want to maximise the potential of everyone who chooses to work for us, and we offer a range of flexible working patterns and support to make a fulfilling career at HMRC accessible to you.

The assignment duration also supports your career through building your depth of expertise.

As part of accepting this role you will be agreeing to the expected assignment duration set out above. This will not result in a contractual change to your terms and conditions. Please note this is an expectation only, it is not something which is written into your terms and conditions or indeed which the employing organisation or you are bound by. It will depend on your personal circumstances at a particular time and business needs, for example, would not preclude any absence like family friendly leave. It is nonetheless an important expectation, which is why we ask you to confirm you agree to the assignment duration set out above.
