Senior Director, Portfolio Delivery

Please note this role is a secondment ending in July 2024.

Senior Director, Portfolio Delivery plays a key leadership role within Global Products & Technology & Products (GP&T) on the Strategy, Transformation and Programme Management Office (STPMO) leadership team.

The role reports directly to VP of STPMO and is accountable for leading portfolio delivery across all GP&T towers.

GSK’s Global Technology & Products (GP&T) provides infrastructure services (including servers & storage, Cloud services, Networking, End User services, Identity & Access Management and Help Desk desk) and Global Applications (SAP, Ariba, WorkDay) to support all GSK sites globally; 100k+ users, across 300+ sites.

The Portfolio Delivery team consists of a set of portfolio managers, scrum masters and project managers who facilitate the delivery of change across the entire GP&T portfolio. The Senior Director, Portfolio Delivery is accountable for ensuring portfolio delivery process, standards, reporting and governance are adhered to and understood by product owners across GP&T. They are also seen as an expert in how to set up, facilitate and govern new demand coming into the teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Standardising the way we source, oversee and manage additional Programme and Project Managers, Scrum Masters, and Release Train Engineers, finding creative solutions to demand challenges

  • Overseeing all GP&T portfolios of delivery, acting as an escalation point to resolve blockers

  • Ensuring all delivery standards, processes, governance and reporting are implemented effectively across the GP&T portfolio – driving consistency of approach as much as possible

  • Resolving blockers to keep the delivery moving forward at pace

  • Acting as an expert across the GP&T estate to drive continuous improvement in our delivery methods and improve visibility of our work

  • Updating a wide range of senior stakeholders on progress and blockers, bringing together the most appropriate team to resolve issues

  • Collaborating across STPMO to be the face of STPMO into the GP&T towers – helping to navigate the support available from Business Operations, LPMO and others as required

  • Development and mentoring of direct report internal employees, including driving High Performance Behaviours

Why you?

  • BS Technical Degree e.g. Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline. MS Degree preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in enterprise-level management within technical architecture, design, application development, or infrastructure services.

  • 5+ years of experience in leading and managing Agile Release Trains (ARTs) or equivalent

  • Proven experience of managing a portfolio that combines agile and traditional ways of delivery

  • Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Certified Practitioner (or equivalent experience).

  • Possesses significant expertise and vast experience in business/functional area.

  • Previous global function and experience in major organization are preferred. Pharmaceutical or other regulated industry experiences is a plus.

  • Experience developing and implementing solutions that span geographical boundaries and time zones.

  • Experienced with technology and digital transformation.

  • Demonstrated impact through delivery and leadership of large portfolios of technical delivery

  • Performs broad range of work and complex activities in a wide variety of non-routine context with substantial personal autonomy.

  • Sought after by others for guidance, shares cutting-edge knowledge & uses influence to drive change.

  • Is consulted internally and externally to set standard for enterprise wide delivery.

  • Recognized ability to deliver under challenging circumstances. Clear competency strengths in overcoming barriers, and challenges in order to maintain quality, cost and time targets.

  • Possesses and shares knowledge of best practice and current trends, acquired both internally and externally.

  • Demonstrable experience of building happy, engaged and high performing global teams.

  • Very strong business acumen.

  • Experience managing million (£) operational and change budgets.

  • Strong 3rd party vendor management.

  • Excellent senior stakeholder management – ability to help people prioritise long term strategic thinking

  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills. Strong influencing skill.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including presentation skills.

  • Cultural sensitivity.

  • Excellent English spoken and written.

  • Willingness to travel if needed.
