  • Trainee Fire fighter - circa £35.5k + 17.5% shift pay
    Fire Fighter - circa £38k + 17.5% shift pay
    Fully developed in role (2 years min) - circa £43.5k + 17.5% shift pay


The role


As a Fire Fighter, you will be reporting to the Crew Leader and Watch Manager and carrying out the day-to-day activities in order to maintain a fully effective Fire Service in order to save life and to protect property in line with company standards and licensing requirements.



Accountabilities


  • Deal with emergency situations in accordance with laid down regulations and procedures. Undertake firefighting duties as deemed necessary to save life and protect property. Regularly communicate with and update the Sector or Incident Commander.
  • Efficiently mobilise resources required in responding to emergency incidents. (If applicable).
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external bodies by applying the agreed policies, procedures and working practices when attending domestic or major Aircraft incidents promoting a professional image of Stansted Airport. Provide feedback to the Crew Leader, Watch and/or Station Manager. Propose recommendations for improvement to ensure an effective and integrated response to emergency situations.
  • Maintain the required level of professional competence as specified by the regulator in accordance with CAP 699 to uphold the airport licence.
  • Maintain equipment for operational readiness to specified standards to meet internal and external audit requirements
  • Promote and adopt safe working practices. To ensure that PPE and operational kit is fit for purpose, that self, colleagues, and customers are not put at risk, and that health safety and the environment are given the highest priority in order to protect the business. Work and comply with all safety management systems introduced by the company.
  • Be responsible for personal and team compliance with Company Health and Safety Policies, ensuring safe working practices to minimise risk to self, work colleagues, customers and staff is minimised.
  • Comply with all legal and statutory obligations applicable to this role, maintain competence in all company IT systems relevant to role.
  • Participate in projects and working parties and to carry out any other duties that may be outside the standard remit for the purpose of personal development, or as may be reasonably required by the Company.
  • Delivery of Fire Precautions and/or Fire Responder Training as required by the company, having completed Level 3 award in Education & Training.


Carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by the fire service management team including substituting within the fire service team when operationally required to do so.


What will make you successful in this role


To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate a flexible and helpful attitude, to assist with the smooth running of the airport. You will need to always maintain professional standards including uniform standards. The successful candidate will need to be able to communication effectively, demonstrating empathy and understanding while ensuring procedures are always followed. You will also need to maintain high standards relating to your personal and team compliance in relation to company health and safety policies.


You will need to hold a current aviation rescue firefighting service (RFFS) certificate of competence OR currently working in LAFRS either wholetime or on call as a competent fire fighter OR RAF/MOD fire service having completed all trade training. The successful candidate must have a valid full UK Driving Licence, be able to meet the required medical standard and pass entry tests, and subsequent fitness assessments. Hold GCSE (or equivalent) in 5 subjects including Maths and English. Minimum age 18 years.


The successful candidate must be able to achieve the following:

  • LGV License
  • First Aid At Work
  • Medical gas administration (Oxygen and Entonox)
  • Fire fighter aviation bridging course (if required)
  • Institution of Fire Engineers Level 2 Certificate
  • Level 3 Award in Education & Training
