The posts will be based at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) on either the Queen Elizabeth Hospital or Birmingham Heartlands Hospital/ Good Hope Hospital sites.

UHB is one of the highest performing NHS organisations in Europe with a proven international reputation for its quality of care, information technology, clinical education and training and research. This is an excellent opportunity to develop strong leadership skills both within the Trust and also as part of the RCP programme. This post will provide the appointee a unique opportunity to develop management skills for future consultant posts.

Applications are open to trainee doctors:

  • At ST4 or above
  • Working full time or less-than-full-time
  • With a national training number (JSDs are not eligible for this post)
  • With full GMC registration.

This is a fixed-term role for minimum of 12 months. The role may be undertaken in programme or out of programme (training or experience).

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The Chief Registrar role provides senior higher specialty trainees with the opportunity to develop valuable skills in leadership and management, and gives them a minimum of 40% protected time to put these skills into practice by developing initiatives that address local challenges. Chief Registrars have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engagement and morale, and education and training, and work to deliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations.

Trainees benefit from a flexible training model that enables them to develop a portfolio of skills and experience that will benefit future consultant posts and leadership roles, and build a profile that marks them out as a future clinical leader.

Applications must be discussed with your educational supervisor and Training Programme Director (TPD), and permission to apply must be granted by the TPD and evidenced as part of the application process - see TPD form as a separate attachment to this advert.
