Overview / Responsibilities:
Wood is recruiting for a summer placement engineering student in its Aberdeen based Technical Consulting team focusing on subsea and export systems.
You will have the opportunity to gain experience in some, or all, of the following subsea engineering aspects:
- Subsea pipelines and flowlines,
-
Subsea control systems,
-
Subsea structures and riser systems,
-
Electrical power transmission,
-
Subsea Oil and Gas operational support.
As we continue to grow and build our Energy Transition experience, you may also have the opportunity to be part of our ongoing offshore wind power generation, carbon capture and hydrogen transmission system projects.
To get the most from this role, it is expected that you will work in the office most of your time however hybrid working will be considered.

The Role
You will be mentored by one of our senior engineers and work with engineering teams on anything from small, fast-paced scopes to larger, major energy projects.
Our aim will be to expose you to several scopes, across the variety of work we do, during your time with us to help you find your passion. From there, you may choose to deepen your knowledge, understanding and your practical application of your engineering discipline.
You could be involved in UK-based projects in the North Sea and Irish Sea, or providing support to one of our global projects in the Americas, Africa, Mediterranean or Europe.
You may also work on some world leading onshore energy transportation projects, including traditional oil and gas, carbon dioxide (CO2) and now hydrogen. There are also opportunities to support offshore renewables projects including both fixed wind and floating wind.

Typical responsibilities

You may be required to contribute to engineering solutions such as concept engineering or design work in accordance with industry codes and standards

You may conduct engineering analysis, extract and process engineering data

You may help to prepare engineering proposals, studies, technical reports, equipment specifications, or drawings

You may have to understand the project brief and the tools and resources that are available to provide solutions

You may have the opportunity to learn to use advanced engineering software for pipeline routing, stress analysis, and hydraulic analysis depending on your discipline and interest

Applicants should have a keen interest in subsea energy technologies.

A strong desire to actively learn, innovate and problem solve as part of a team.

Applicants should be working towards a good honours degree in one of the following disciplines:

Civil engineering

Electrical engineering

Mechanical engineering

Structural engineering

Subsea engineering
-
Other engineering disciplines may be considered.

Applicants will have completed at least one year of full-time education in an engineering discipline.

Strong problem solving and analytical ability.

Strong communication and report writing skills.

Effective time management skills.
Desirable:

Digital knowledge.

Experience with software applicable to their discipline (eg finite element analysis).

Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to be responsive and open to changing circumstances.

Experience in ownership and delivery of workscopes, such as a university, community or charity projects.
