ViiV Healthcare was created in 2009 with an ambition of launching a “best in class” integrase inhibitor, maximizing value of existing HIV products and allowing acute company focus on developing initiatives, compounds and access that would advance the care and treatment of HIV. Since that time, the successful launches of 4 Dolutegravir-based products have increased internal and external stakeholder demand for Medical Affairs support to ensure appropriate use of and access to our products as well as to serve as an educational resource.

In addition, there is consistent progression of research on ViiV Healthcare compounds to address data gaps that exist for Dolutegravir and our newer compounds, which includes advancing cabotegravir clinical development for both HIV treatment and prevention. The NA Medical Affairs team continues to play a significant role in ensuring capable sites are identified and selected, researchers are properly educated and informed, and studies progress in timely manner.

Additionally, HIV therapy is now being actively managed by many players and this has elevated the need to provide HIV clinical and research information to formulary decision makers and payers groups, increasing demand for Medical Affairs partnership.

There is a critical need now to enhance the medical and scientific leadership capability to effectively and credibly exchange high quality medical and scientific information about ViiV products and the disease area with our customers. Without this, we will not be able to deliver on our promises to patients or to our shareholders and become industry-leading.

As the Director, Implementation Research you will be responsible for working collaboratively on large multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute research studies, education and training materials, as well as work with external stakeholders to support capacity building in implementation science and HIV. The role is best suited for someone with strong knowledge in implementation methodology that works well on a collaborative team.

  • To support the Senior Director, Global Implementation Research as an expert in Implementation Science methodology.
  • Will serve as an ViiV expert for internal and external stakeholders for the implementation science portfolio.
  • To help ensure all ViiV supported implementation science activities at a regional and/or global level are aligned with the global implementation science strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in implementation science and advise internal and external stakeholder about the development of research proposals and protocols.
  • Participate in the development of ViiV sponsored implementation research and be responsible for protocol writing, developing outcome measures, choosing data collection tools, analyzing the data, and developing peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Serve as a liaison and communicate effectively between internal and external investigators and the RDGM on sponsored, collaborative, or investigator-initiated studies in implementation science
  • Oversight of Collaborative and Investigator sponsored implementation science research
  • Oversee implementation science training and education for internal and external stakeholders via webinars and in-person speaking engagements
  • Serve as the ViiV responsible person for supported external research, has the confidence and ability to present and defend external proposals to an internal scientific review committee.
  • Support the review and assessment of implementation study ideas that focus on novel innovations in HIV care such as Long-Acting HIV therapies, dispersible pediatric HIV treatment medication, and HIV 95-95-95 goals globally.
  • Serve as an advocate for additional implementation studies with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively participant in key HIV-related congresses and meetings such as CROI, IAS, EACS, etc
  • Develop external partnerships with NGO, academia, governments, and other relevant organizations that can increase capacity building in HIV and implementation science
  • Build new opportunities for Implementation Science training through external grants and fellowships

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD & 3 plus years of experience in Implementation Science & writing and developing implementation proposals and protocols
  • Experience in implementation science methodology and design
  • Leadership experience in initiating and managing studies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Broad understanding of HIV, new long-acting therapies for HIV treatment and prevention, and issues impacting the HIV care continuum or the concept of 95-95-95
  • Deep understanding of implementation research methodology and design, particularly how it relates to HIV
  • Expertise around Implementation Science (e.g., understands implementation frameworks, outcomes, and strategies) and how to evaluate them effectively in research
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Flexible and entrepreneurial attitude to support a newer team and establish new processes
  • Fluent business level of English; other languages a plus
  • Combine a good strategic attitude with ability/interest to help develop training and educational material/programs around implementation science
  • Ability to time manage and prioritize/project management skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Translating strategy into action - a compelling narrative, motivating others, setting objectives and delegation.
  • Building strong relationships and collaboration, managing trusted stakeholder relationships internally and externally.
  • Budgeting and forecasting, commercial and financial acumen.
