Job Description

Cheshire East Educational Psychology Service is delighted to offer up to two additional salaried Trainee Educational Psychologist (TEP) positions to those undertaking a doctoral programme of study in either their 2nd or 3rd year of educational psychology training.

Our EP service is committed to supporting TEP colleagues into the profession and beyond. These posts will provide an excellent opportunity for TEPs to join our friendly, creative and highly supportive team whilst fulfilling their full training programme and into main grade EP permanent employment with us, upon successful completion of their training.

This post is considered as full-time, incorporating university studies and attendance alongside undertaking all tasks required of a TEP on placement, all learning, work and opportunities conferring with the standard bursary arrangement. Upon qualification, it is expected that the successful applicant will commit to being a member of Cheshire East EPS for a minimum of three years.

There are various work location bases available across Cheshire East in the North, South and Central regions.


As a member of our team, you will be required in accordance with your training provider, to attend all university study and supervision time (in line with individual providers teaching calendars) and successfully pass all training and placement requirements each academic year. With us, in Cheshire East, you will be well supported and provided with a range of experiences to enable you to fulfil all university practice placement requirements as well as having regular access to supervision. You will have lots of opportunities to shadow and undertake collaborative working with colleagues. Like all of our EP colleagues, you will be encouraged to explore, develop and strengthen areas of knowledge, skills and interests. We offer a well-paced induction programme with essential training offered (e.g. Post 16, Safeguarding).


We are a small EP team with a passion to creatively apply psychology to support children, young people, education settings, families and our wider community. We embrace and enact our Cheshire East TOGETHER principles and channel these into our relationships which are embedded in all areas of our practice.


Our Educational Psychology Service provides a broad range of service delivery which includes professional consultation, assessment, intervention and prevention work to service users. We have a capped number of statutory work to enable the application of psychology to be fairly apportioned. All of our EP team are committed to promoting and maintaining excellent and supportive relationships with schools and other partners. We focus on integrating ecological approaches to assessment and intervention with collaborative, strengths-based and empirical foundations to all aspects of our psychological work. We adhere to an ethical model of traded services to provide prevention and inclusion work across cognition and learning and emotional well-being e.g. MeLSA, ELSA, EBSNA, emotion coaching, precision teaching, attachment and trauma. TEPs will be warmly welcomed to contribute to all aspects of our service delivery.
