The team
Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It’s a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit and a Weather centre based in Millbank, London. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.
The role
At ITV News Central, we tell stories of the wide range of people who make up our community across the East and West Midlands. Our newsroom is also reflective of the diversity of the region. We are looking for a Production Specialist to join our award winning team who help to technically produce these live news programmes and bulletins.
As a Production Specialist, you will work as part of a multi-skilled team that provide technical, craft, operational and administrative skills across all areas of the news service, primarily based at our newsroom and studio in Birmingham.
To be eligible for this role, candidates should have strong administrative skills along with a knowledge of live studio operations. The role will include regularly inputting into our library database, so accuracy and an attention to detail is essential.
You’ll also be operationally involved in the distribution of scripts and operating prompt for the programmes. Therefore you must be able to work to deadlines, be quick thinking and calm under pressure and be able to react quickly to last minute changes that often happen in a live studio environment.
You will also provide administrative support to the Production Co-ordinator, as and when required.
You must be willing, and have the aptitude, to develop your skills further and to move between different duties on a daily basis as the needs of a busy and vibrant news operation requires. You’ll also be happy to share your own skills with others.
The rostered hours may include weekend working, late shifts as well as early morning shifts, subject to experience.
As a Production Specialist, you will be a highly motivated individual as well as friendly and approachable.
You will be committed to working as part of a successful team, sharing the responsibility for supporting news production. Being an excellent communicator with strong and decisive decision-making skills.
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)
- Experience working in live studio situations, working well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong administrative skills, accuracy and an attention to detail is essential.
- Demonstrate the ability to build on current skills, and where necessary learn new skills.
- You will be respectful of all your ITV colleagues and have the ability to maintain a positive attitude no matter what the daily tasks.
