Job Description

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust provides child and adult mental health services, learning disability, wellbeing, older people's and eating disorder services across Norfolk and Suffolk.

At any one time, around 23,000 people in Norfolk and Suffolk are receiving care and attention from the Trust. Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated assistant psychologist to join our friendly and supportive Learning Disability Youth and CAMHS Community team.


We are a specialist service for children, adolescents and young adults (0-25) with a learning disability where there are concerns about their behaviour, emotional well-being or mental health and whose needs cannot be met in mainstream CAMHS.

This post offers a 12 month fixed term opportunity to gain broad experience of delivering psychological support within a multi-disciplinary team. We are committed to training and development and you should expect to access all relevant CPD for your role whilst in this post, including a monthly Reflective Practice Group for Assistant Psychologists.

The successful candidate will be required to travel as part of the post therefore a full driving license and access to a car is essential.

Main duties of the job

You will join a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of Clinical Psychologists, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Learning Disability Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Systemic Practitioner and Support Workers, working closely with social care teams, specialist schools and colleges and local care providers. It is therefore essential that you are a team player.

You will be supervised and supported by a qualified psychologist to deliver specialist assessment and therapeutic interventions with young people and their families, with a strong emphasis on risk assessment, care planning and safeguarding.

Additionally this varied role will include supporting the team in the collection of routine outcome measures, co-facilitation of groups, teaching, audit, participation/co-production projects and developing resources and materials to support the delivery of the service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A BPS accredited degree in Psychology.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of quantitative research.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of research in the NHS.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of mental health
  • Knowledge of quantitative research.
  • An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems, learning disabilities, Autism and other disabilities.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Skills using computer systems for databases or data analysis.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients and colleagues.
  • Presentation Skills.

  • An ability to interact with clients with mental health problems
