Our JMTC business provides research and technical support for the commercial operations of JM’s business units. In addition, they offer a comprehensive array of advanced characterisation services; provide a company-wide information resource; and conduct fundamental research into new processes and technologies essential to the future growth and success of our company.
Job purpose
As the Research Scientist you will take direct responsibility for the delivery of small to mid-sized research and development projects that generate new products, processes and understanding. You may be responsible for the provision of techniques to support research projects. You actively work to translate technical understanding into commercial value. Be an expert in field of science and have demonstrated ability to deliver high quality, high impact science with a depth of understanding.
Your responsibilities:
  • Identify and propose new separation techniques relevant to recycle critical materials found in fuel cells and electrolysers.
  • Technically assess the feasibility of the proposed solutions through practical experimentation carried out to rigorous scientific standards.
  • Analyse and characterise the separated components and identify routes to recycle, refurbish and reuse each.
  • Critically assess the successful recycling routes to identify which could be further developed through pilot plant scale-up.
  • Where required, specify, and install equipment necessary to test feasibility of proposed routes.
  • Prepare technical reports and give presentations.
  • Maintain the highest EHS standards in accordance with JM culture and requirements.
  • To take on any other duties that are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Requirements for the role:
  • Masters or PHD or equivalent experience in Chemistry, related discipline Essential
  • Demonstrated laboratory and analytical skills Essential
  • Demonstrated practical background in separation techniques Essential
  • Knowledge and experience of proton exchange membrane technologies used in fuel cells and electrolysers Desirable
  • Knowledge and experience in separation processes applicable to the materials used in proton exchange membrane technologies used in fuel cells and electrolysers Desirable
