The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent, and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence.

It’s an exciting time for HR as we launch our new People Strategy for the next 4 years, which includes growing our relationships with the wider Defence Nuclear Enterprise and supporting the new tripartite relationship with Australia and the United States. You will have the opportunity to get involved in activities that span the breadth of the HR profession, including Leadership, Capability and Talent, Performance, Reward, Workforce Planning, Wellbeing and Diversity and Inclusion.

Our Leadership, Capability and Talent team support the SDA and its functions to align their talent, learning and development strategies against our organisation’s priorities​. Our aim is to build a sustainable, high performing organisation by recognising, retaining and developing critical nuclear roles and growing talent to support the SDA. With the delivery of the SDA Capability Growth Model which seeks to recognise capability and growth as one element of how we reward our people and manage our talent in the SDA. It is a key feature of our Pay Review, and a natural evolution of our current Performance Management Processes which helps us to identify and meet our individual and organisational capability needs and have the skills in place to deliver our programmes in line with our SDA Code.

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) team work closely with their business areas to deliver our People Strategy and support at a strategic level the various workforce and people related matters associated with organisation design and transformational change. They are the interface between the organisation and the wider HR team and work in conjunction with our wider HR Team colleagues, the SDA Functions to assist the organisation in workforce planning, to deliver a highly motivated workforce with the right skills and capabilities to support our customers​. The HRBP’s play a critical role in identifying, developing, and delivering people interventions​. Including offering support to Senior Managers on complex cases and mitigate litigation risk to SDA by ensuring compliance with employment legislation. The team are also responsible for the delivery of our Diversity and Inclusion and Wellbeing strategy.

The Workforce Planning Team is responsible for ensuring the SDA is suitably resourced by providing a centralised view of resourcing activity, strategic workforce plans and tracking, whilst monitoring the core full-time equivalent growth target against the workforce establishment so that the SDA can meet its KPIs and demand. By working with the Functional Management teams, recruitment providers and business teams to support the end-to-end recruitment process, the team focus on understanding the trends and environment that impact the SDA's ability to resource. With a focus on continuous improvement, Workforce Planning drive enhancement in workforce management information and systems to ensure that the organisation works to deliver the right people, with the right skills, at the right time.

The SDA pay and reward team is responsible for all aspects of the reward and benefits package including the management of the annual pay and performance awards. There are four principles providing the foundation for performance and reward in the SDA:

Please note this is a hybrid role with attendance to the site dependant on organisational requirements.
