Job Introduction
From its bases in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Salford and Glasgow, BBC Studios’ Factual Entertainment department produces many of British Television’s most well-loved and highly acclaimed brands. Productions, such as Top Gear, Gardeners World, Countryfile and The One Show. Weatherman Walking is a much loved long running series showcasing the beauty and rich landscape of Wales. We are looking for a Researcher to deliver the forthcoming season of 8 programmes.
Main Responsibilities
- Recceing walks based in Wales and researching any interesting points of interest or landmarks
- Researching untold/less familiar stories on or close to the walk that Derek can engage with and bring to life either by talking to lively contributors or taking part in an activity to help enhance the story.
- Writing up detailed, concise research notes and pitching story ideas to the Series Producer.
- Casting contributor/s who have done something extra special for their community like raising money/Building projects/Caring etc and have a back story to tell.
- Take the lead with the SP on shoot days. Good communication and organisational skills. Be prepared to muck in and assist as well as lead on the stories you have researched.
Are you the right candidate?
Our ideal candidate will be/have:
- a demonstrable eye for a good untold stories
- Strong writing skills
- A highly organised team player who’s able to work not only with production colleagues but also presenting talent and film crews.
- A proven background in factual/factual entertainment programming, ideally with recent credits on history, cultural or art programmes.
- An eye for finding the weird and quirky in the form of untold stories
- Good people as well as organising skills
