Job Description

Are you highly organised and full of initiative and creativity? We have an exciting opportunity to join our award-winning marketing team at Penguin Random House Children’s as a Marketing Assistant.

About Penguin Random House Children’s

We are the UK’s no.1 children’s publisher, home to Puffin and Ladybird, and some of the most recognised entertainment brands and authors, including: Peppa Pig, Peter Rabbit, The Snowman, Tom Fletcher, Roald Dahl, Malorie Blackman, Jeff Kinney, Jacqueline Wilson and Karen McManus to name but a few. We also launch talented new rising stars, including Nathan Bryan, Dapo Adeola, Sam Copeland, Humza Arshad and Manjeet Mann.

The opportunity

In this role, you’ll learn first-hand how we approach and execute marketing campaigns, drive demand, work with retailers and consumers and create magic. We pride ourselves on innovation and put our readers at the heart of everything we do. As Marketing Assistant, you’ll provide administration support to ensure the smooth-running of the large marketing team, working closely with PR and wider teams. You’ll also support the creation and management of targeted, consumer-facing marketing campaigns for our children’s books.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a range of admin processes to help the smooth-running of the team and campaigns, including finance administration such as raising purchase orders, paying invoices, and reconciling budgets
  • Maintaining databases and updating systems as and when required
  • Organising and scheduling meetings, and booking venues and materials / equipment
  • Providing support for meetings such as the preparation of reports, agendas, taking minutes and collating visuals / materials
  • Supporting team members with every stage of campaign development and implementation and managing some campaigns yourself
  • Coordinating campaigns with relevant divisional departments, including sales, editorial, PR, social and international
  • Liaising with media agencies, external designers, production houses, photographers and other suppliers needed for your campaigns
  • Closely collaborating with PR Assistants and the social team on social support for allocated titles that receive owned media support.

What you’ll bring

As you’ll be working with a wide range of colleagues across the business, as well as key external contacts, you’ll need to be personable and have excellent communication and collaboration skills. We’re looking for someone who can keep things running smoothly in a fast-paced environment when your colleagues are juggling various priorities. You'll be proactive in your work and will always be looking for new ways to work more efficiently and effectively.

You don’t need to have publishing experience as we’ll teach you all you need to know, but we’re looking for someone with a curiosity for children’s books and who is full of creative ideas for how they could be marketed. You’ll also bring with you a curiosity to learn, think, see and do things differently. We want to hear from different voices throughout the UK and see fresh perspectives.

How to apply

If this sounds like the perfect role for you, please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by 23:59 on Thursday 13th April.

Our hybrid working approach

PRH is currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. The needs of our teams and individuals are different, so we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach. The exact balance of office to remote working will depend on the nature of your role and team needs, and we are open to discussing this through the recruitment process.

What you can expect from us:

Salary: You‘ll start on £26,500. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role to reflect your growing contribution.

Our employees are the heart of our business. We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our employees, some of which are:

  • 27 days paid holiday entitlement in year one (plus bank holidays), increasing a day each year up to 30 days
  • Medical cover
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Summer working hours (role dependent)
  • Volunteering policy and charity matching
  • Employee Assistance programme
  • Mentoring programme
  • Extended gender neutral parental leave
  • Access to books and eBooks across Penguin Random House UK
  • Each site has trained mental health first aiders
  • We plant a tree for every new employee to our business

Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we're part of the offer an interview scheme. This is where disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role can opt in to get to the next recruitment stage. There may be some situations where volume of applicants means we can't take all eligible candidates to interview.

We want to make sure disabled applicants can be their best at each step of the recruitment journey. If you need adjustments during the application process, we encourage you to get in touch with us at http://PRHCareersUK@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk. Remember, you only need to share what you are comfortable to for us to support your adjustment request.
