Are you an experienced Crime Scene Investigator looking to take on a lead role in ensuring Quality Standards are applied across the Crime Scene Investigation team? This role is to provide the Technical Management skills to ensure procedures are well designed and well implemented providing assurance that the CSI's operate with the highest of rigour in their everyday duties.

Within Forensic Services we are looking to recruit a CSI Technical Manager to lead on implementation of ISO17020 accreditation for serious and organised crime and its compliance with Forensic Science Regulator Codes. You will have responsibility for ongoing training and competence of a national unit of CSI’s, development and maintenance of standard operating procedures including scientific research, development of validation exercises for technical methods and interpretation of results to influence best practice and ensure our methods are sound and will stand under scrutiny.

To be successful in this role we want to recruit an experienced Crime Scene Investigator who is self-motivated, driven and conversant in the requirements for applying the Forensic Quality Standards in an operationally effective way. The successful candidate will stay informed of scientific developments by cultivating and maintaining relationships with national networks and working groups as well as key partners and stakeholders. You will have excellent presentational skills and will ideally be fully conversant in auditing and assessment requirements. In addition to initial accreditation requirements you will seek to develop new areas for extension to scope

The role is Monday to Friday with no on call as the role is primarily non-operational. The candidate will be expected however to attend scene and maintain their own competence in line with operational CSI’s to allow on scene witnessing and mentoring.

The successful candidate will be required to attend the Midlands on a regular basis with opportunities to travel throughout the UK to regional sites.

Main Responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of the CSI suite of ISO 17020/ FSR Codes compliant policy and procedures.
  • Technical method validation design and delivery.
  • Co-ordination and review of proficiency test scheme participation.
  • Develop plans for batch testing consumables and review of results.
  • Line management and mentoring of Deputy Technical Manager.
  • Monitoring and supervision of departmental compliance to ISO 17020 and FSR Codes.
  • Deliver initial and ongoing CSI training activities including CPD sessions and practical assessments.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to the Quality Management Team and departmental managers.
  • Participate in internal audits and UKAS accreditation assessments.

Licences

Full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:

  • College of Policing Crime Scene Investigation Modules 1&2 (or equivalent NPCC accredited qualification)

  • Comprehensive understanding of Quality Standards and the requirements needed in terms of ISO 17020 and the Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice.
