Works with guidance to a generally defined project plan; evidence of working independently within area of expertise typically with a daily/weekly focus. As the Research Scientist will work on the testing of adsorbents, absorbents and catalysts in order to deliver new and improved products for the Catalyst Technologies business. They will produce and interpret relevant testing results on one or more complex test rigs and make recommendations and proposals for further work. The role will require the analysis, interpretation and reporting of results to a high standard. They will be expected to have an innovative mindset looking for new approaches to improve our product offerings. While working as part of a team to support projects and delivery they will have their own project responsibilities which they will be expected to drive for success.
Catalyst Technologies (CT) is a market leader in the syngas value chain. It develops and supplies high-value, specialty process technology and catalysts for chemicals and fuels processing to enable our customers to operate efficiently, profitably, and sustainably. With CT at the forefront of the transition to sustainable chemicals and fuels, the transition to net zero is creating exciting new opportunities in this sector.
Your responsibilities:
  • Responsibility for safe operation of absorbent and catalyst testing facilities. Generating project safety documentation/risk assessments/COSHH assessments.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of NPI projects via testing of samples, collation of testing and characterisation results and the generation of insights.
  • Develop and implement ideas in the various project areas to give improvements through innovation
  • Works independently to produce analysis and insights drawn from results, using theoretical proficiency and experience to spot trends and recommend improvements/forward plans which contribute to program development.
  • Operate as responsible person for test rigs and laboratories.
  • Routinely compiles research reports to summarise scientific progress/understanding and communicates information internally to senior colleagues across functions.
  • Actively looks to build proficiency in a broad range of R&D techniques that can be applied across programs, accessing scientific literature to increase understanding.
Requirements for the role:
  • Degree qualified (Chemistry related discipline). Essential
  • Experience of working in a laboratory. Essential
  • Experience of catalyst testing and related analytical techniques. Desirable
