Our Newham Work

Our Newham Work is Newham Council’s Community Wealth Building hub, providing outreach and access for all residents, linking them to opportunities in a more locally focused, mutually beneficial economy.

The award winning Supported Employment Service provides a service for Newham residents managing a disability, Substance use, health condition and autism who would like to secure employment. We are now seeking to recruit additional Employment Support Officers, with specialist knowledge in Substance use, IPS Mental Health and/or supported employment to continue delivery to this high priority service.

This post is based in Stratford but you can be required to work at any LBN site within the borough.

This is multi-faceted role offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Specialist Employment Advisor to further develop their career in a dynamic and high-performing team within Our Newham Work.

Successful applicants will support people with pan disabilities including substance use, mental health conditions in structured treatment for drug and Alcohol use and assist them in securing sustainable paid employment in line with their preferences by delivering the individual placement and support (IPS) model.

Work Advisors will facilitate, develop and maintain excellent working relationships with employers and broker jobs for people with mental health conditions and health and social care needs attending Our Newham Work and closely guide and support them into successful employment.

An experienced Work Advisor, who can demonstrate in-depth experience in supporting people with health and social/mental health care needs, to gain and sustain paid or self-employment, in an employment focussed environment.

We are looking for individuals with a demonstrable track record of placing people into employment.

This position will suit a self-starter, who is able to use their own initiative, whilst also implementing evidence based employment models, such as IPS/ Supported Employment.The post holder is expected to work closely with the Adult Social Care team and other stakeholders, to ensure referrals are processed timeously to maximise the number of Newham residents with health and social care needs obtaining a positive employment outcome.

We are now seeking to recruit additional Work Advisors. This role will focus on engaging with residents with disabilities to secure education, employment or training by working in partnership with education providers, employers and training agencies to increase the skills level in the Borough and to enhance well-being and dignity.

About Us
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
