Job Description

Bexley CAMHS are pleased to be able to offer three Clinical or Counselling Psychology posts which are available as Band 7-8a preceptorships with guaranteed funding for further training attached. Both full- and part-time applicants are welcome, as are applications from trainees qualifying later this year, as well as current Band 7 colleagues wishing to progress to Band 8a. Please see attached information regarding preceptorships.

We have guaranteed funding for further training attached to these posts. All postholders in Band 7-8a preceptorships posts will be able to access either the second year of Systemic Training (for those who have completed the foundation year as part of their clinical psychology training) or another evidence-based therapy training required by the service such as EMDR, MBT-A, IPT-A, etc. Internal specialist supervision groups will also be available to support practice during and after training.

In addition, Oxleas provides an internal CPD programme for psychological therapists for the first two years post qualification and attendance at this is prioritised in job plans. Postholders will also be supported to attend supervisor training at Salomons Clinical Psychology training programme and will contribute to placements for clinical psychology trainees.

Furthermore, 18 months to 2 years after qualifying, as a band 7 you will be eligible for promotion to 8a via the preceptorship scheme provided you have met the attached competences.

As a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in Bexley CAMHS you will have a balanced job plan which meets both the needs of the service and your own developmental interests.This will include contributing to initial assessment clinics which will be robustly supported through post assessment multi-disciplinary case discussions. In addition, you will be providing formulation driven, evidence-based psychological therapies. You will also be care co-ordinator for some young people, involving working with the family and wider professional network.You will contribute psychological thinking to the work of this busy, friendly multi-disciplinary service and will supervise the clinical work of assistant psychologists, trainees and other professionals.

You will be encouraged to develop and lead on service development initiatives to meet the needs of the population. You will be supported to develop areas of specialist skill. For example, in addition to working with CYP and families presenting with the full range of CAMHS presentations, we are also interested in recruiting psychologists with specialist interests and skills in working with looked after and adopted children and/or with children with learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders. Furthermore, one of the posts available is based in a highly successful and supportive team using mentalization based approaches to working with young people presenting with significant risk, their families and networks.

Oxleas offers a wide range of NHS healthcare services to people in community and secure environment settings. Bexley CAMHS covers the London Borough of Bexley and is a friendly, busy, CYP IAPT service. Staff that work in Bexley CAMHS describe a warm and caring multidisciplinary environment.
