Job summary

The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA’s purpose protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the whole of the United Kingdom.

The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.

SIA licensing covers security operatives who are in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job.

Our core purpose is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector.


Job description

About the Role

Work in the field of intelligence analysis is extremely important to the operations of SIA and the stakeholders which the organisations it supports. As an Intelligence Analyst, you will deliver strategic, tactical and operational intelligence and risk products. You will proactively and reactively gather, analyse and assess information and intelligence from a variety of sources internally and externally. You will also have ownership over producing intelligence and risk products that inform, direct, drive and task corporate strategy, business planning and operational activity.

What you will be doing:

  • Data Analysis -Undertake complex research and analysis at strategic, tactical and operational levels, linking information and intelligence to identify patterns and trends.
  • Risk Analysis – identify high risk companies, individuals, regions, patterns and trends.
  • Information Management- Respond to and manage information and intelligence from a variety of sources internally and externally.
  • Information Analysis- To analyse and assess information and intelligence and manage tasks and activities in line with the strategic and operational risk models. Gather and research information and intelligence where required to produce a complete product.
  • Product Development- develop and produce intelligence/risk products that target resources across desk and field based compliance and interventions stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge and Expertise– To provide an understanding of intelligence and risk management, and the strategic and operational impacts on the Private Security Industry and it’s Regulatory Regime. To be proactive and take the lead for and develop expertise in, specific areas of responsibility and identify and drive forward solutions.
  • Investigation Support - Support live investigations and operations, ensuring all real time information and intelligence is understood and actioned.
  • Stakeholder Management- To act as a contact point for Key Contacts.
  • Best Practice- Ensure procedures and practices comply with SIA Policies, the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the Human Rights Act, and all relevant legislation. To utilise the techniques and methodologies identified by the National Intelligence Model.
  • Senior Analyst Support: To support the Senior Intelligence Analyst with the ongoing development of corporate support systems (ICT), the on-going development of the feedback cycle and contributing to strategic intelligence and risk products.

What are we looking for?

We want our future team player to have an interest in Intelligence and Data or already be working in this arena with an interest in taking a next step up from being a Researcher or similar. Given the evolving technologies, it’s vital our new team player is able to keep abreast of developments and changes in Intelligence, as well as working in a fast-paced, but extremely exciting environment.

It would be great if you have experience in these areas:

  • Understanding of The Private Security Act 2001.
  • Understanding of the SIA’s regulatory products.
