Job Description

A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Technical Instructor (TI) to join our Occupational Therapy department at Kemple view.

As a Technical Instructor you will be expected to work with individuals on a one to one basis, and facilitate therapeutic group sessions specialising in arts and music within the hospital with the aim to promote an individual’s recovery, maximise independence and to work towards their goals. Your enthusiasm and ability to motivate others will drive the work you do with our patients as part of the team.

Full time and Part time hours will be considered.

The Therapy Services at Kemple View aim to provide bespoke and individualised treatment pathways for male patients with complex mental health, recovery needs and risk profiles. Therapy Services include Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and education, in both our Low Secure and Rehabilitation and Recovery settings. Therapy services staff work together as part of identified Multi-Disciplinary Teams with our nursing and medical colleagues, using positive psychology approaches with patients that aim to motivate, engage, develop and practice skills to achieve life goals and promote long term change to progress through the identified care pathways.

You would also have the opportunity to work closely with the Psychology and Social Work departments, as part of the wider work of Therapy Services focusing on building a life worth living. Our modern extensive facilities include the following: art room, rehabilitation kitchens, group rooms, music room, large sports hall, conditioning suite, computer suite, library, cafe, shop, extensive grounds, a woodland walk, and horticultural and animal care areas

Do you have experience in the creative arts and using music as a therapeutic tool? Would you like to support adults who have complex mental health needs and a forensic / offending history in their rehabilitation? To help them develop and pursue their creative interests, develop functional and life skills, and help them to identify future vocational and educational pursuits.

You will need to have experience in supporting others in pursuing their passion and interest in creative outlets. You will support patients to access therapeutic activities by facilitating sessions that can include, but are not limited to, art, music, crafts, woodwork, design, and gardening. We are keen to utilise any specialist skills / passions or hobbies you may have and incorporate these into your role, in particular, music, and arts and crafts. The role of a TI is varied, so if teaching someone how to sketch one day, supporting someone to hone their guitar playing skills the next, then supporting a landscaping project on the next day excites you, then this job could be for you.

Kemple View is an OUTSTANDING service as rated by the CQC. There are 6 wards (low secure and rehabilitation wards) and you will be able to work with individuals across site as a technical instructor. We are an ever growing, innovative service who pride ourselves on being truly collaborative. There is a strong person-centred culture at Kemple View where emphasis is placed on individuals being involved and empowered within their care and treatment.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Qualified Occupational Therapist alongside a robust multi-disciplinary team. Team working and communication are an essential part of this role. As a technical instructor you will feedback to the wider team on an individual’s progress and goals within their planned therapeutic sessions.

The occupational therapy team is a large department and is able to offer many varied opportunities for learning and career development, for example extensive training opportunities including: positive psychology approaches, mental health specific training, Individual development training and opportunities to work with other disciplines.

The successful candidate will be joining a multi-award winning team at Kemple View.
