Job Description

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual to join our team in the Clinical Chemistry department as a Biomedical Scientist. The successful candidate should have laboratory experience and knowledge of a variety of procedures and analytical techniques relevant to Paediatric Biochemistry.

Appointment will be at Band 5 or 6 depending on experience. Band 5 candidates must have completed the IBMS Registration Portfolio and be HCPC registered as a “Biomedical Scientist”. Band 6 candidates must have successfully completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Chemistry.

The Clinical Chemistry department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital comprises of three main sections; acute, metabolic, and new-born screening. The successful candidate would be expected to work in all sections with initial placement and subsequent rotation into each section being dependent on the successful candidate’s experience as well as service demand. Full training being provided. Participation in all aspects of analytical work including an out-of-hours on-call service, as well as weekend and bank holiday working is expected, with adherence to the ‘Standards of Proficiency’ as defined by the Health and Care Professions Council. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as the ability to produce accurate and precise work.

The department provides a capillary phlebotomy service, and the post-holder may be trained in order to assist with provision
