Department Description

As part of the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Department the Sustainability Business Partner provides support to their business area (Buildings and Facilities Management) in the development and implementation of the UKAEA environmental sustainability strategy.

If you are passionate about environmental and sustainability aspects with a strong set of skills for both verbal and written reports and have excellent data analysis and reporting skills, keep on reading!

We are seeking an exceptionally organised individual with excellent interpersonal skills to enable effective working relationships to be developed with people in a wide range of roles and levels of responsibility. You will be working with a high variety of teams and stakeholders across a growing organisation focused on the development of a sustainable energy source for the future, and a net-zero carbon green campus.

Who are we looking for?

We have an excellent opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic graduates to join our two-year graduate scheme, this vacancy is for those interested in working in procurement as part of our exciting scheme, you will spend 80% of your time developing both your general work-related skills and professional qualifications, with 20% of your working time dedicated to graduate training and development. UKAEA has a nurturing community that learns from each other.

Within the 20% training and development, there is a core suite of activities designed to develop your professional and business skills. Elements of this programme are flexible and can be tailored to your personal development needs and to those of your specific job role.

What opportunities does the graduate scheme cover?

Roles and examples of the type of work/projects you would be involved in include:


  • Assess and quantify the environmental benefit of potential building projects to feed into feasibility studies and decisions (including embodied carbon and lifecycle assessments)
  • Help define SMART targets and KPIs and report on project progress and carbon reduction achieved, feeding into relevant internal and external reports
  • Our scheme is accredited by the The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) as a professional development scheme.

  • Liaise with relevant other departments and with the Sustainability Committee to establish links with other initiatives and the wider UKAEA Sustainability Strategy
  • Keep up to speed with relevant new standards and developments in the sustainability of buildings domain, and feed key points to Building & Facilities Management

Qualifications


To be considered you will need to have successfully completed your degree within the past 2 years, and will possess a relevant degree in an engineering or science based subject.

You will need to have excellent data analysis and report writing skills. In addition, you will need to be self-motivated, demonstrate the ability to work well with others, and have an interest in the development of a cleaner energy. Additionally, you will be passionate about self-development and you should have a proactive approach to your work with an enthusiasm to achieving your full potential.

What is the recruitment process?

All applications will be initially reviewed by our Early Careers Team and then passed on to our Technical Managers. If shortlisted, you will be contacted by a member of the recruiting team to arrange a short telephone interview. Successful applications will be invited to a more in depth virtual interview where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your abilities and skills in a range of different situations which include a short presentation. You may be required to attend a final in person meet and greet session to support decision making around the role.
