Job Description
This post will be an exciting opportunity for a Health Care assistant to assist the multi disciplinary team in the provision of safe and effective nursing care to level 2 and 3 patients.
The North Tees site takes acute surgery, medicine, trauma and also provides a Haemofiltration service. It is funded for 10 level 3 and 6 level 2 patients but uses the beds flexibly according to need.
The role will involve full day and night rotation. We work a 12 hour shift pattern at present with equal split rotation. A training programme is provided.
Personal Specifications
- NVQ 3 in Adult Health and Social Care or equivalent
- Ability to demonstrate good communication skills.
- Self motivated and committed to ongoing self development.
- Basic I.T. skills.
Additionally it is highly desirable that the successful candidate would possess;
- • Previous experience in a critical care or acute area.
- Maintains effective communication with patients, carers, relatives and staff.
- Accept delegated duties within parameters of capabilities and competencies.
- Complete documentation in accordance with NMC standards.
- Participate in programmes of in-service training as required.
- Demonstrate compliance with the Blood Transfusion policy to ensure a safe service is provided to patients.
- Assist with care of patient’s property and belongings listing
- Supporting of patients as they move from one setting to another.
- Chaperoning of patients
- Assist in the prevention and control of hospital acquired infection by ensuring close liaison with the Trusts control of infection department.
- Have an awareness of the Trust policy relating to risk management
- Establish and maintain good relationships with patients, carers and staff alike.
- Maintain a standard of conduct and dress to sustain public confidence
- Summoning appropriate assistance
- Reassurance until qualified staff available
- Maintenance of privacy/dignity/confidentiality
- Maintenance of a safe working environment
- Provide care as directed by a registered nurse/midwife
- Preparation of patients and treatment areas for direct care
- Clerical duties associated with the efficient management of the ward
- Checking/preparation of case notes/x-rays
- Checking and maintaining stock levels

Job Purpose
To provide support to the multi professional team by undertaking appropriate duties and direct nursing care following assessment and planning of requirements by a registered nurse. Additionally there are general housekeeping duties to support the safety and provision of the service.

Knowledge, skills & experience required
- Good communication skills – verbal and written
- ability to work as a team member essential
- previous acute in-hospital experience is an advantage
- NVQ 3 or equivalent is essential
Key Result Area

- Have an awareness of the Trust policy relating to risk management and assist in the implementation of the Trust Risk management strategy with understanding of its implications within own area of work.

- Maintain a standard of conduct and dress to sustain public confidence and promote the profile of health care employees
- Contribute to the prevention and management of untoward occurrences by responding to emergencies
