The Vacancy:
We have a part time vacancy available to assist in the day to day running and the efficient management of the Council’s markets Based at Colne Market Hall (indoor and outdoor) with occasional responsibility for working externally at Nelson Outdoor Market.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- To be responsible for the security in and around the market hall and external areas and to act as key holder during the period of duty between the opening hours of 07.00 and 18:00 i.e. from the opening of the market to admit entry to traders and their suppliers until the end of the trading day and market closure. This involves dealing with potentially difficult situations, emergencies and evacuation procedures. Training will be provided.
- To ensure that market regulations are maintained and to liaise with traders and members of the public when required and at the request of the Market Manager.
- To undertake cleaning tasks, ensuring that the common areas around the Markets are maintained in a fit and clean state to an agreed standard of presentation at all times.
- To ensure that all public conveniences within the Market Hall are kept clean, sanitised and stocked with the appropriate toilet requisites, at all times.
- To remove spillages and other waste from common areas and aisles to ensure safety for all and to clean and maintain all areas of the building in accordance with safe working practices, health and safety regulations and Liberata’s ISO accreditation and documentation system.
- To use all chemicals and cleaning fluids in a safe and economical manner in accordance with COSHH and general health and safety regulations and manufacturer’s instructions. Staff are issued with appropriate PPE for use as directed.
- To undertake relief duties to cover for staff leave as required and agreed with the Market Manager and to work varied or additional hours as necessary.
- To be responsible for out of hours call-outs in the event of an emergency on a rota. This will involve liaising with the emergency services and co-ordinating a search of the market, requesting emergency repairs and safe attendance whilst security works or repairs are carried out and the alarm is reset.
- On the Market Manager's instruction to oversee the operation of the Council’s Outdoor Markets in accordance with Liberata’s Risk Assessments and Method Statements and safe working practices.
- If requested by the Market Manager to collect and bank monies for any licence fees paid by traders on the Outdoor Market.
- To ensure that the site of the Council's Outdoor Market is set up and operated safely, kept clean and free from refuse, trip hazards and that traders operate safely in accordance with Market regulations.
- To carry out minor maintenance as requested by the Market Manager. The level of repairs and maintenance will depend on the competence of the individual and be in line with approved safe working practice.
- To report any major repairs to the Market Manager or the Property Services Team as required to ensure a rapid response to building defects and to minimise the risk of harm, injury or loss.
- To update records as required in accordance with Liberata’s Quality Management System.
- To act in a professional, effective, dependable, courteous, friendly and proactive manner at all times.
- To undertake such other duties as may be required and as are commensurate with the grading of the post.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Experience of cleaning operations within a commercial environment.
- Experience of ensuring the security of premises e.g. action as a key holder, responsible for setting alarms etc.
- Ability to communicate well with others and take instructions, create and maintain good relationships with market traders and members of the public.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and to work alone.
- Ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements and quality management recording systems.
