We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Finance Professional - Corporate Tax to join our team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive corporation tax and statutory tax accounting advice and analysis across the sectors regulated by Ofgem, with a specific focus on networks companies, energy retailers, generators, and key market service providers. You will act as a thought leader, shaping the regulatory policy and approach to corporation tax in the GB energy sector, while establishing Ofgem as a new centre of excellence for our understanding of corporate tax and tax accounting. As the subject matter expert, you will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the Professions and Flexible Resourcing model. Your responsibilities will include planning, overseeing, and delivering work within project timelines, ensuring a high standard of quality. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in sharing inclusive knowledge, providing support, and fostering the development of colleagues who are dedicated to upholding Ofgem's values.

The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in corporation tax and statutory tax accounting, gained either through experience in a regulatory and economic environment or within a large commercial organisation/financial institution. You will possess a recognised tax qualification, such as CTA, or a relevant accounting qualification, or you will have a proven record of high performance and substantial achievements in previous positions, demonstrating your proficiency in corporation tax, statutory tax accounting, and commercial/corporate structuring.

The Regulatory Finance team is a dynamic, friendly, and inclusive team consisting of financial experts with a range of financial skills and backgrounds. It provides advice to the organisation on corporate and regulatory finance issues as well as leading on the operationalisation and implementation of Ofgem’s RIIO price controls. It has sub-teams in Corporate Finance, Finance Policy Development, Strategic Planning and IR, Regulatory Reporting and Financial Modelling. This role will be part of the Finance Policy Development team.

  • Provide corporation tax and statutory tax accounting advice and analysis across the sectors Ofgem regulates, with a particular focus on networks companies, energy retailers, generators, and key market service providers.
  • Provide thought leadership on the regulatory policy and approach to corporation tax in the GB energy sector that Ofgem regulates, acting as a new centre of excellence for corporate tax and tax accounting.
  • Be the focal point and expert in multi-disciplinary teams in a specific work area in the context of operating in a Professions and Flexible Resourcing model.
  • Plan, oversee and deliver a set of work deliverables on time and to a high standard through effective project management and support of multidisciplinary team members.
  • Using your expertise, provide inclusive knowledge sharing, support and development for colleagues that demonstrate commitment to Ofgem values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clear and transparent work objectives, milestones and success metrics in your area of expertise to oversee and co-ordinate successful team outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams to manage interdependencies, risks and resourcing to support portfolio delivery.
  • Where required, be jointly responsible with the PDL on welfare and pastoral care of all colleagues.
  • Demonstrates effective diversity and inclusive team management within their team and the wider organisation.

Key Outputs and Deliverables

  • Use your corporation tax and statutory tax accounting expertise to understand the corporate tax structures and statutory tax accounting of companies regulated by Ofgem, including networks, energy retailers, generators and other specialist market participants.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on the financial interdependencies between both licensee and other companies within group structures and be the focal point for technical and commercial advice relating to company taxation and tax accounting.
  • Review and develop Ofgem’s regulatory tax policies and data reporting templates and monitor the reporting data submitted by companies to provide critical insight.
  • Support policy teams in their an understanding of regulated company corporate tax structures, and how this fits in with the price controls we manage, ensuring key stakeholders are updated in a timely fashion.
  • Be the expert and focal point for corporation tax and statutory tax accounting across Ofgem and with external stakeholders.

Support the development of a high-performing team based on effective resource management, ongoing support and professional development

  • Provide expert tax related guidance to help team members deliver, by building a supportive, inclusive team environment based on trust-based relationships, transparency and inclusivity.

Essential Criteria

  • Have extensive corporation tax and statutory tax accounting expertise gained either through a regulatory and economic environment or via a large commercial organisation/financial institution ideally (although not necessarily) in sectors relevant to Ofgem’s work. (lead criteria)
  • Have a recognised tax qualification, e.g. CTA or relevant accounting qualification, or have relevant corporation tax, statutory tax accounting and commercial/corporate structuring experience that can be demonstrated by proven record of high performance and substantial achievements in past positions.
