Position Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Warehouse Supervisor to join our Bedesway Distribution Centre. This role will be key in assisting the Warehouse Managers in maintaining the smooth operation of a fast-moving Warehouse environment. Responsible for the day to day management of people within the warehouse function, to ensure company's targets and objectives are met to meet customer requirements, ensuring that staff comply with health, safety and standard operating procedures. Responsible for housekeeping standards and continuous improvement within the warehouse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General Tasks and Management:

  • Provide a safe working environment, adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and ensuring they are understood and practiced by the team at all times.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and monitor the receipt, storage and despatch of goods, ensuring orders are processed efficiently and that delivery meets KPI’s/customers timescales/requirements.
  • Work with the Warehouse Managers to determine staffing levels and control order picking, goods in, goods out operations assigning workloads.Deploy staff to other areas within the warehouse so priorities are met.
  • Maintain storage areas by organising floor space; adhering to storage design principles; recommending improvements.
  • To organise, facilitate and manage stock takes at regular intervals
  • Operate visual delivery tracking systems in order that commodity status can be seen at a glance.
  • Identify errors and eliminate root cause using robust countermeasures and recommending improvements.
  • In conjunction with the Warehouse Manager, implement warehouse and management systems and working practices in line with best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and review operational methods to facilitate both qualitative and quantitative improvements within the operation whilst ensuring continuous customer service
  • Ensure security of Warehouse environment and maintain access control, ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained at all times.
  • To monitor and maintain stock accuracy by ensuring the physical stock is in line with the warehouse management system and ensure all stock movements are recorded to ensure accuracy.
  • Responsible for providing a thorough handover at the end of the shift to assist in the smooth running of the next shift and for taking any action needed when being handed over to from the previous shift.

People Management:

  • Supervise the warehouse team and manage day to day warehouse operations carrying out daily team briefs communicating clear precise instructions and job expectations to all warehouse operatives on shift.
  • Build team philosophy and cultivate a team atmosphere by working with the team to achieve the company's targets and objectives.
  • Maintain training matrix and ensure employees are adequately trained and competent within their role to ensure operational flexibility.
  • Coach the team daily in order that a common goal is focused upon and those business objectives are met consistently.
  • Planning, managing and adjusting staffing levels to meet daily operational requirements within the warehouse.
  • Drive Company Absence Control Procedures to ensure maximum attendance levels ensuring all Return to Work paperwork is completed in a timely manner and passed over to the Warehouse Manager for review.
  • To deal with short term/long term absence issues working with HR where appropriate.
  • Deal with all people issues on shift involving Warehouse Manager/HR where appropriate.
  • Undertake performance appraisals and proactively monitor and deal with performance issues including the provision of training to address shortfalls in performance.
  • Where required carry out investigations and deal with conduct/disciplinary issues with the authority to issue up to final written warning level.
  • Takes part in the recruitment process for Warehouse Operatives joining the business.
  • Responsible for monitoring the performance of new starters during the 3-month probationary period – completing the probationary review form deciding whether the new starter has passed, failed or the probationary period needs to be extended.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of operating in a supervisory capacity within a fast paced, highly pressurised warehouse and distribution environment
  • Experience of work scheduling/planning.
  • Experience of working to deadlines and pre-set KPI’s
  • Experience of carrying out performance reviews.
  • Experience of carrying out disciplinary investigations and dealing with disciplinary issues
  • Ideally NVQ Level 3 ILM (or equivalent)
  • FLT operator’s licence
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment
  • Ideally knowledge of clothing industry
  • Possess the ability to lead and motivate a team of people to succeed by utilising appropriate interpersonal styles including leading by example, setting objectives and defining responsibilities to give a clear sense of direction
  • Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure / cost of poor quality
  • Able to achieve results by setting high standards and committing to clear objectives
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and able to establish logical practical solutions
  • Strong people and performance management skills
  • Computer literate with good numeric skills
    • Sound knowledge of IT software packages (Excel, Windows & In-house data bases)

Additional information:

  • The shift pattern for this role is 4 on, 4 off. Alternating between lates and earlies:
    • Early shift: 6:00-16:30
    • Late shift: 12:00 – 22:30
