Division/Group Summary:

The Microbiology Division (MBD) helps Thermo Fisher achieve its Mission by enabling human health care. We innovate with purpose, and we are focused on improving clinicians’ abilities to diagnose infection and enabling labs to increase productivity with informed decision-making, better care, and faster answers at every point along the individual’s health care journey.

Position Summary/ How you will make an impact:

This role will hold responsibility for operations supporting $150M+ of revenue across six manufacturing sites (Perth, UK, Wesel, Germany, Johannesburg, South Africa, Adelaide, Australia, Malacca, Malaysia & Beijing, China). In this role, you will partner with the Sr. Director, Plate Media Operations to lead the transformation of the manufacturing sites by ensuring global best practices are implemented and improvement strategies are delivered.

You will work to build a world-class manufacturing organization by developing and deploying strategic actions to improve both productivity and customer experience. You will be integral to the operations leadership team, partnering with supply chain, sourcing, and operational improvement leaders to develop and drive critical metrics.

What you will do:

  • Partner with Sr. Director, EMEA & APAC Plate Media Operations on tactical execution and long term strategic planning for Microbiology’s Plated Media operations. This includes capital planning and standardization, sourcing and footprint strategies and delivery on financial and customer experience targets.
  • Oversee development of annual budget and periodic forecast requirements for EMEA & APAC Plate Media Operations sites. Identify business risks and mitigating opportunities during the quarter to enable the delivery of financial targets in the annual operating plan.
  • Improve forecast processes to ensure that financial commitments are met.
  • Drive effective prioritization and value achievement on investments required to deliver on critical operations strategies and Corporate funded initiatives.
  • Lead processes to align operating plans down to the lowest level required driving accountability at the point of impact and ensuring there is alignment at all levels of the organization.
  • Build, lead, mentor, and develop matrix operations analysts, creating a robust operations finance team.
  • Apply a continuous improvement approach that allows the team to adopt outside/in thinking that advances the organization’s agenda.
  • Lead critical initiatives across multiple functions and locations to improve operations profitability and achieve/outperform AOP goals.
  • Provide strategic financial partnership and direction to the operations team, optimizing profit margins for all sites including footprint optimization, design for manufacturability, complexity reduction, sourcing, productivity, overhead cost management, inventory risk management, and capital optimization.
  • Support developing and implementing outstanding manufacturing strategies that will create clear advantages and improve customer experience.
  • Create robust cost controls, reporting, and accountability in the organization.
  • Lead internal and external audits and work with management to develop remediation plans as vital.
  • Improve processes with the GBS team by aligning metrics and demonstrating standard methodologies.
  • Enhance quarterly balance sheet reviews through continued engagement between the site finance team and the GBS team.

How you will get here:

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Professional accounting qualification and /or Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business Administration
  • Extensive experience in business/ operations finance and/or plant controllership
  • Prior experience delivering in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with non-finance people.
  • Experience with a matrixed organization and dispersed teams
  • Proven ability to deal with complexity and isolate the essentials.
  • Proven track record to lead and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and data gathering skills. Attention to detail and consistently delivering high quality work
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and tight time demands
  • Excellent skills with MS Excel are required; Oracle, HFM/CMR, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) are preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong team building skills and the shown ability to work with a diverse group of people even if geographically dispersed
  • Self-motivated, higher level of flexibility and strong work ethic with the goal to get the job done
  • Continuous Improvement approach: Identify process and control gaps and champion improvement initiatives through Practical Process Improvement (PPI)

Travel requirements:

  • 25%-50% domestic/international travel required
