About Right Here Right Now

The service provides bespoke health and wellbeing support to children within their school day. This includes 1:1 provision and group work. Staff utilise a range of resources and tools to meet the identified needs of children they support. Staff can also provide outreach provision to families to support the relationships between school and home. Staff work closely with the school team to ensure the Curriculum for Excellence and National Care Standards are met.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit a part-time Early Intervention Family Worker, to work 15 hours per week. You will work in partnership with Dundee City Council schools to ensure the effective implementation of both individual and group programmes of support designed to promote children’s wellbeing and attainment. You will work as part of a small team to plan and implement individual programmes which focus on the child as a whole person and support the child’s overall development.

You will have relevant experience of working with vulnerable children and families. You must also be able to demonstrate knowledge of children’s needs and development and the impact of wider environmental and family factors upon a child’s well-being.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Early Intervention Family Worker – PEF Support (School
Setting)

JOB PURPOSE

Working in Dundee City Council Schools to ensure the effective implementation of individual
and group programmes of support designed to promote children’s wellbeing and attainment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Improve the wellbeing and opportunities of children by supporting them to address
problems which impact on their ability to learn and thrive
  • Plan and implement individual programmes which focus on the child as a whole person
and support the child’s overall development engaging with colleagues and partner
organisations to help them to reach their full potential.
  • Manage a caseload and work together with schools and other professionals to develop
individual support plans, which address the child’s assessed needs and priorities.
  • Maintain child case files, share relevant information and co-ordinate referrals and
assessments with other agencies to work towards integrated assessment and service
delivery, in partnership with schools
  • Contribute to the research and development of new programmes to promote the
overall development and wellbeing of children using the service.
  • Maintain and develop positive communication between children, staff and external
agencies

SCOPE OF PLANNING AND ORGANISATION

The post holder will report to the Service Manager.

The post holder is expected to deal with the day to day issues regarding casework practice in
consultation with the Head Teacher and Service Manager as appropriate. The post holder
oversees and maintains case recording and monitoring and evaluation systems.

The post holder will contribute to practice development across the service offering practice
direction to relevant colleagues and contributing to service reviews and evaluation
meetings.

The post holder has responsibility for working with schools, children and their families,
assessing complex needs and priorities, development of support plans and prioritising
support based on the needs of the children

The post holder is expected to plan and organise any required expenditure in agreement
with the line manager.

SCOPE OF JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING

The post holder assists the Service Manager to maintain an overview of casework. The
post holder needs to maintain current knowledge of practice issues and developments.

The post holder will receive referrals directly through the school and plan supports
accordingly. This will be a combination of individual one to one support, small groups
and on occasion groups with parents.

The post holder will contribute to written reports and assessments of families for the
benefit of other agencies including case conferences, Children’s Reporter, Children’s
hearings, Courts and school as appropriate.

Whilst there is a clear framework of policies and procedures the worker is expected to
be able to use their judgement in managing risk and keep service users safe in
partnership with schools, reporting directly to the Head Teacher. They are also expected
to advise the Service Manager of any change in risk.

The post holder is part of the Pupil Equity Funded Support based in schools. They will be
working in the school setting.

The post holder makes a key contribution to setting high standards of care for service
users.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure continuity of care and co-ordination of support
plan.
  • Liaise with other colleagues to communicate information about the various
activities within the services to ensure integrated working.
  • Participate in working groups in order to contribute to the decision-making
process.

External

  • Liaising with school staff, at all levels to meet the needs of the children referred
for support. Linking directly with Head Teacher in matters of child protection,
risk management and key decision making.

  • Engage with local group forums etc as identified by Service Manager and others
to promote the service, influence policy and ensure good communications.
  • Provide written reports and assessments Social Workers, Children’s Reporter,
Children’s Hearings, Courts, etc.as required by the school.
  • Maintain relationships with external associated agencies and professionals, in
order to support children and address individual and group needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

A relevant* professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above

*e.g. social work, social care (children and young people); playwork; qualification
meeting the registration requirements of the General Teaching Council, Nursing and
Midwifery Council, General Medical Council; community education or childcare and
education.


OR
Equivalent knowledge acquired by other means (this will not apply where there are
externally specified qualifications for the post e.g SSSC)

EXPERIENCE

Working with vulnerable children and families.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

The post holder requires to be able to demonstrate knowledge of children’s needs and
development and the impact of wider environmental and family factors upon a child’s
well-being and in addition, how services are expected to benefit service users as a well
as an understanding of, and commitment to people’s rights. Examples include:

  • Social Pedagogy
  • Anti-discriminatory practice;
  • Effects of trauma, deprivation and environment on young people;
  • Relevant legislation, national guidance and local policies and procedures
  • Human and child development;
  • Children’s rights and children’s responsibilities;
  • Social care theory for practice;

  • Early intervention and prevention, research, policy and practice

Additional Information –

The post holder may undertake driving duties whether in own vehicle, or a vehicle

Due to the nature of the service the post holder will be working in school settings
between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. but may be required to work outside core hours
between 8.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. This will be agreed in advance with the school and
