About us

The UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are designed to educate Engineers in a dynamic and exciting learning environment. The Department has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas and has consistently been among the best funded such departments in the UK. The research carried out in the department reflects a broad multidisciplinary view of the engineering world and encompasses navigation of space shuttles and control of observation satellites, to tunnelling beneath the planet’s surface, for example. Research projects and centres span disciplines to provide new and innovative solutions and thinking that refers back to the human and the applied.

The Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre for Mineral-based Construction Materials (ICEC-MCM) is a thriving collaboration between seven academic institutions and a large group of external stakeholders, led by the UCL Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering (UCL CEGE). We are funded by UKRI, along with 4 other Centres and an integration hub, as part of their £30 million UKRI National Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Research (NICER) programme.

The ICEC-MCM is looking for a Communications & Events Officer to help promote ICEC-MCM activities and research outcomes internally and externally.

Construction is one of the top 3 sectors of the UK economy. It is responsible for 8% of GDP and 10% of both UK employment and greenhouse gas emissions. UCL is therefore collaborating with the world-leading experts at the Universities of Loughborough, Leeds, Sheffield and Lancaster, the British Geological Survey (BGS), and a network of national and international stakeholders from across the construction industry, to provide leadership in this sector. Overall, the academic collaboration involves 25 world-class multidisciplinary academic co-investigators, 15 postdoctoral researchers, and around 30 doctoral students and 30 MSc students. All our activities is undertaken in interaction with a dynamic Stakeholder Interest Group of more than 100 members, representing the whole value chain and life cycle for construction materials. Our programme of work will lead to actionable solutions for industry, policymakers and the public that will create economic value from minimising use of energy and virgin raw materials, and progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The portfolio of activities have a total budget of more than £8M.
